Moravcikova Competes at FINA World Championships

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Former Lady Vol swimmer Martina Moravcikova took to the international waters and raced in the 200m breast on Thursday at the 14th annual FINA World Championships in Shanghai, China.
Moravcikova, who hails from Prague, Czech Republic, swam a time of 2:31.46 in the event and finished 25th overall out of the 38-person field. The top 16 finishers advanced to the semi-finals. From there, the top eight competitors will move on to the finals.
As a senior during the 2010-11 campaign, Moravcikova garnered All-America accolades in four events at NCAAs, including earning First-Team honors as a member of the fourth-place 400y medley relay team. She also leaves Tennessee as the Lady Vol record holder in the 200y breast.
Prior to the world championships, she represented her home country at the 2007 World University Games in Bangkok, Thailand and the 2009 World University Games in Belgrade, Serbia. The 2011 games will be held in Shenzhen, China with the swimming competition taking place Aug. 14-19.
Athletes who are also competing at the meet with UT ties are former standout and Olympic silver medalist Christine Magnuson (USA) and freshman Marina Ribi (Switzerland).
