Junior Jenny Connolly will be in contention for the top spot in the 50y free after qualifying in the top eight of the event, while three other Lady Vol swimmers will compete in 'B' finals after the morning prelims on day two of the Southeastern Conference Swimming Championships.
Connolly finished the "splash and dash" event in 22.67 seconds to claim sixth. The mark was a season best for the West Lafayette, Ind., native, who has already been a part of the bronze medal 200y medley relay squad at the Championships.
In the first event of the day, freshman Lindsay Gendron and senior Aleksa Akerfelds each qualified for the `B' final in the 500y free. Gendron claimed ninth with a season-best clocking of 4:43.31, while Akerfelds swam a season-best mark of 4:43.81 to notch 11th.
Martina Moravcikova will compete in the 200y IM `B' final after touching in at 1:59.94. The Prague, Czech Republic, native won her heat of the event and finished 14th overall.
Junior Atlantis Wilkins and freshman Kennedy Higdon just missed making the `B' cut finals in their respective events.
Wilkins competed in the 50y free and won her heat with a time of 23.19, which was a season-best clocking that fell just .10 seconds short of being in the top-16, claiming 19th. In the 200y IM, Higdon also finished in 19th after clocking an NCAA B-cut time of 2:01.50. She missed the field of 16 by under a half of a second.
In addition to the finals of the 50y and 500y free events and the 200y IM, the finals of the 200y free relay will take place.
Finals action begins at 6 p.m. ET, with live video and stats available at UTLadyVols.com
