Sheffey Makes NCAA Field

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The Lady Vols will be represented at the NCAA Cross Country Championship meet for the eighth time in 10 seasons under Director of Track & Field J.J. Clark.
Tennessee senior Brittany Sheffey punched her first-ever ticket to the NCAA meet on Saturday as the eighth-place finisher at the NCAA South Regional in Tuscaloosa, Ala. She will run Nov. 21 in Terre Haute, Ind.
Sheffey paced Tennessee in all six meets and won a pair of races this season, and she has been in the Lady Vols' scoring five in all 24 races during her career.
The UT cross country teams had hoped to add another entry for the NCAA Championships, but the Big Orange learned Sunday afternoon they came up just short when the NCAA released its at-large bids.
Vol senior Chris Bodary, who placed 12th at the NCAA South Regional and was the sixth individual finisher not on one of the two automatic-advancing teams, did not get an invitation to the NCAA meet. It turns out he was the first individual from the region not to make the cut, as the first four were automatic qualifiers and the fifth received an at-large bid. The native of Downingtown, Pa., concluded his season as an All-South Region honoree, the second straight campaign he earned that recognition, and he led UT in all six races.
