Sophomore Renato Prono will represent his home nation of Paraguay at his first Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico.
The native of Lambare, Paraguay, is scheduled to compete in the 100- and 200-meter breaststroke. He qualified for both events during the summer.
"I'm really excited to go and have a chance to represent my country," Prono said. "This will be my first time swimming at this meet, so I'm really looking forward to the opportunity."
Prono, who left for Mexico on Friday, does not have long to wait before his first race. The 100 breaststroke is slated for Sunday, and the 200 is on Monday.
While this is Prono's first appearance at the Pan American Games, he has competed several international senior events before, including the World Championships and the South American Swimming Championships.
