Senior Tennessee diver Michael Wright was named the SEC Diver of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.
The Forest Park, Ill., native helped the Vols sweep the boards against No. 9 Georgia and 13th-ranked Indiana with a close win on the 3-meter. After finishing second on the 1-meter to junior UT diver Ryan Helms, Wright responded by topping IU's David Piercy with a 405-60-point score to win the 3-meter.
This marks the third time Wright has collected the honor during the 2010-11 season.
After defeating two top-15 teams last Saturday, the Vols jumped from 10th to seventh in the latest College Swimming Coaches Association of America poll. Tennessee swept a home double-dual meet against the Bulldogs and Hoosiers. Georgia left Knoxville with a 1-1 record, having defeated Indiana, and moved up two spots from 11th to ninth. IU fell one spot from 12th to 13th.
The seventh-ranked Volunteers prepare to conclude their regular season with a top-10 showdown when they travel to face SEC-East rival and fifth-ranked Florida on Saturday.
