Tennessee signee Marshall Talkington displayed a steady hand throughout in capturing last week's Bubba Conlee National Junior Golf Tournament in Bartlett.
Talkington, set to begin his freshman season at UT this fall, finished the three-day event at Quail Ridge Golf Course as the only player under par. The Jackson native shot 69-69-71--209 to finish two strokes better than Hager Collins of Lexington, Ky.
A recent graduate of University School of Jackson, Talkington trailed first-round leader Michael Motz by three strokes after the first round but climbed to a one-shot the lead through 36 holes. Talkington then closed with a 1-over-par 71 to card his 1 under score for the tournament.
This year's Bubba Conlee field of 120 included golfers from 20 states and three foreign countries. Former PGA champion Shaun Micheel is a past participant at one of the Mid-South's premier junior events.
Talkington joins Max Smith of Newbury, England, and Knoxville's Brandon Rodgers as newcomers to the Tennessee golf team for the 2010-11 season.
