The Tennessee swimming and diving team arrived Monday in Athens, Ga., for the 2010 SEC Swimming and Diving Championships. The meet begins Wednesday and lasts through Saturday.
According to Vols head coach John Trembley, defending NCAA and SEC champ Auburn and Florida, who unseated the unbeaten Tigers in a Jan. 22 dual meet, are favorites to win. That leaves Trembley's Vols to battle the Georgia Bulldogs for third.
"Clearly Auburn and Florida are the teams to beat," Trembley said. "Behind them, Tennessee and Georgia will be fighting for the bronze finish."
Sophomore Ricky Henahan enters the meet as the lone Vol to lead the SEC in an event--in his case, the 100 backstroke. Tennessee should also have strong performances in the diving and breaststroke events as well as the relays, Trembley said.
"After Wednesday evening, we should have a good barometer of where we stand in the competition," Trembley said.
The Vols wrapped up their regular season Jan. 29 with a loss to Florida, finishing with a 4-3 (3-2 SEC) record.
