Former Tennessee golfer Chris Paisley is participating in this weekend's Walker Cup matches as a member of the Great Britain and Ireland squad. The contest against the United States team is taking place just outside Philadelphia at historic Merion Golf Club.
Paisley completed his Tennessee golfing career this past spring, earning 2009 Ping All-America honorable mention and All-SEC first team honors after leading the Vols throughout the year in the No. 1 position. The Vols advanced to NCAA regional competition all four of Paisley's seasons and finished 12th in the most recent NCAA Championships.
The Newcastle, England, native already participated in the 2009 Palmer Cup earlier this summer, contributing to Europe's 13-11 victory over the Americans in the Ryder Cup-style competition for top collegiate players.
The Walker Cup Match is contested by male amateur players, one team from the United States of America and one team composed of players from England, Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. The match is conducted every two years, alternately in the USA and Great Britain and Ireland.
