The Tennessee men's track and field team concluded competition Friday at the NCAA Championships as its two remaining athletes did not qualify for Saturday's event finals.
In the triple jump prelims, Akeem Hardnett finished 18th with a top mark of 15.57m (51-1), while in the 110m hurdles semifinals, Charlton Rolle placed 14th with a time of 13.97.
"Akeem opened up with a good jump, but was not able to improve on it," Tennessee head coach Bill Webb said. "Charlton got off to a good start in the hurdles but didn't finish as well as he would have liked."
The Vols will finish the meet with five points from Michael Ayers' fourth-place finish in the decathlon on Thursday.
Of Tennessee's eight NCAA qualifiers, only two were seniors. Freshmen Joseph Franklin and Emerson Peacock along with sophomores Ayers, Joseph Berry, Rolle and junior Evander Wells will return for the 2010 season.
Tennessee has several athletes who have qualified for the USA Championships on June 25-28 in Eugene, Ore. The coaches and athletes will finalize entries for that meet in the next week.
