Trimble Takes Day One Lead in Sea Ray Relays Heptathlon

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The University of Kentucky's Ashley Trimble grabbed the day one lead in the Sea Ray Relays heptathlon Wednesday, scoring 3,273 points through the first four events at the University of Tennessee's Tom Black Track at LaPorte Stadium.
Unattached competitor Kirby Blackley stands in second with 3,076, followed by Kentucky's Precious Nwokey with 3,005.
Trimble, the 2009 SEC Indoor pentathlon champion, had the best performances in three events. She started the day by winning the 100m hurdles in 13.83 (w: 1.4) to generate 1003 points. She then finished fifth in the high jump at 5-3 and earned 736 points. She came back to win the shot put at 38-0 and added 633 more points to her tally. She closed Wednesday's action by winning the 200 meters in 24.85 (w: 2.5) to collect 901 points.
The heptathlon resumes on Thursday at 4 p.m. The final three events are the long jump, javelin throw and 800-meter run.
The Lady Vols make their debut at the meet on Thursday night in the women's open hammer throw. It follows the invitational hammer, which begins at 7 p.m. Slated to compete for UT are sophomore Holly Kane and freshmen Akeela Bravo, Laquoya Kelly and Christine Coppola.
