Former Tennessee track and field standout Carroll Thrift passed away Sunday morning in Orlando, Fla., after a battle with pancreatic cancer. Thrift was a three year letterman from 1965-67 and a member of Tennessee's 1967 All-America 4x100 relay team. He was also a two-time SEC champion on UT 4x100 relays and a member of Tennessee teams that won a total of six conference titles in his three seasons as a letterman. After exhausting his eligibility, Thrift stayed in Knoxville to serve as a student coach for two seasons under former UT head coach Chuck Rohe.
He is survived by his wife, Patty, and children Gwynna and Spencer. A memorial service is scheduled for April 24th at Leu Gardens in Orlando.
