UT Distance Runners Open Penn Relays

The Tennessee men's track and field team opened the Penn Relays with four distance runners in competition Thursday evening at Franklin Field in Philadelphia, Pa. The highlight of the night came in the 5,000m races as two Vols posted lifetime-best marks.
In the championship section, Michael Spooner clocked in at 14:23.76 to finish 22nd overall and improve his lifetime best by 12 seconds. In the college section, Steve Tobin finished fifth with a lifetime-best clocking of 14:30.79, improving on his previous top time by 24 seconds.
In other action, Chris Rapp earned a 12th-place finish in the Olympic development section of the steeplechase with a time of 9:29.11, and Steve Fassino placed 28th in the championship section of the 10,000m with a time of 31:54.22.
Tennessee resumes competition in Philadelphia at 9 a.m. ET on Friday. The majority of UT's field event athletes are in San Diego, Calif., waiting to compete at the Triton Invitational on Saturday.
