KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The national champion University of Tennessee women's track & field team gathered Monday afternoon at Pratt Pavilion to watch and celebrate during ESPN2's recap of the 2009 NCAA Indoor Championships.
For the first time since March 14, when UT won its second NCAA Indoor title in the past five seasons, the entire team came together to see the events unfold in College Station, Texas, that delivered the national championship trophy to Rocky Top. As was the case in 2005, when he guided Tennessee to its first NCAA crown, seventh-year Head Coach J.J. Clark was presented a vehicle (a beautiful SUV) by Mercedes Benz of Knoxville.
In addition to the coaching and support staffs on hand, UT administrators, family, friends, fans and the Lady Vol softball team, fresh from its weekend trip to Gainesville, Fla., stopped by to express their congratulations. Also on hand were members of the media from various TV stations, newspapers and Web sites.
The Lady Vols will now turn their focus toward the outdoor campaign, which begins this weekend. The squad will split up to compete in the Stanford Invitational and Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket Invitational on Friday and Saturday. Tennessee's first home meet is the annual Sea Ray Relays on April 8-11.
