Golf Practice Facility Update
December 22, 2009 | Men's Golf
Dec. 22, 2009
The Mack and Jonnie Day Golf Practice Facility, which was designed in association with the Greg Norman Design Group, currently is under construction. The facility, which is located alongside the Tennessee River west of Alcoa Highway on the Cherokee campus, will serve as home for the Tennessee Golf teams as well as the Turfgrass Research Center.
The first phase of the project includes three practice holes, the M.C. James Driving Range and pitching and putting areas. Rye grass is being planted this winter and the greens are being collared. In the summer of 2010, Bermuda grass will be planted and the tee boxes will be sodded for opening in fall 2010.
Phase II will include the Bonnie P. Blackburn Clubhouse, featuring heated hitting bays for year-round practice, video training space and locker rooms for both the men's and women's teams. This will serve as the home for Volunteer and Lady Volunteer Golf.
