Former Tennessee golfer Philip Pettitt Jr. fired a final-round, course record-setting, 11-under-par 61 Sunday to win the NGA Hooters Capitol Chevrolet Classic in Columbia, S.C.
Pettitt finished at 24 under par and claimed his first professional victory.
"I tried to play smart but aggressive," Pettitt said. "I knew I had to keep playing hard and not let up. It was easily the best round of my career from tee to green."
The Murfreesboro native carded a 70-64-69-61--264 to finish four stokes in front of early-round leader Ryan Blaum, who finished in solo second at 20 under par 268. Pettitt scored nine birdies and an eagle Sunday, shooting 30-31.
"I'll never forget this week," Pettitt added. "Everyone at the (Woodcreek Farms) Members Course has been great and gone out of their way to help us. I thank everyone for their hard work and for making this win so special for me."
Pettitt takes home $33,566 for the win, which concludes the 2009 NGA Hooters Tour Pro Series.
