Whoriskey Selected U.S. Representative to International Tennis Tournament

KNOXVILLE, Tenn.- The United States Tennis Association announced today the top American men's and women's college players selected to represent the United States in the fourth annual Master'U BNP Paribas. University of Tennessee senior Caitlin Whoriskey joins Georgia Tech's Irina Falconi and Notre Dame's Kristy Frilling as the three women chosen.
The East Sandwich, Mass., native becomes the first-ever UT player to participate in this event. She is having an impressive start this year, winning the doubles title at the 2009 Riviera/Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-American Championships as well reaching the semifinals in singles at the same event. She has yet to drop a doubles match and has posted four singles wins this fall.
,p>This current success is a continuation of the impressive summer Whoriskey completed following her junior year. A member of the 2009 USTA Summer Collegiate Team, she reached one singles and two doubles finals in three USTA Pro Circuit tournaments.
The Master'U event features eight teams composed of college and university players from around the world. 2009 marks the second consecutive year the U.S. will participate. The competition features teams from Belgium, China, France, Germany, Ireland, Great Britain and Mexico. Squads compete in a best-of-seven format consisting of two men's and two women's singles matches, one men's and one women's doubles match, and one mixed doubles (one female, one male per team) match.
The tournament is scheduled for Dec. 9-14 in Poitiers, France.
