Lady Vols 29th in USTFCCCA National Cross Country Poll

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Boosted by its performance two weekends ago at the Tennessee Invitational, the Lady Vol cross country team moved into the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association National Poll on Tuesday, grabbing the No. 29 position.
The Lady Vols, who have posted a 12-1 won-lost record on the strength of a victory at their home meet on Sept. 19 and the Belmont Opener on Sept. 5, earned 36 points to move from the receiving votes category at No. 31 to a spot in the top 30 poll.
Oregon held on to the No. 1 spot in the nation, tallying 359 points and 11 first-place votes, followed by Washington and Florida State, who switched spots since the first poll two weeks ago. UW has 345 points and one first-place nod, while FSU has 337 points. Rounding out the top ten are Minnesota (317), Stanford (309), Princeton (291), Arizona State (281), Michigan State (276), West Virginia (268) and Illinois (258).
Joining UT among SEC schools appearing in the poll are Arkansas at 11th and Florida at 14th. In the NCAA South Region, Florida State, Tennessee and Florida are the top three teams this week. The Lady Vols jumped over UF to take the No. 2 spot.
The Big Orange will get its new ranking tested this weekend, as the Lady Vols travel to the Brooks Paul Short Run in Bethlehem, Pa. UT will face No. 9 West Virginia, No. 12 Wisconsin and No. 16 Baylor among others in the 6,000-meter race at Lehigh University's Goodman Campus Course.
The voting panel for the USTFCCCA Division I Women's National Poll consists of the elected executive committee and regional representatives of the USTFCCCA and is conducted by Jesse Rosen. Future poll dates include: Oct. 7, Oct. 14, Oct. 21, Oct. 28, Nov. 4, Nov. 11 and Nov. 18.
