Holmes in third at Tennessee State Amateur

Tennessee rising junior David Holmes is in third place after the second round at the 2008 Tennessee State Amateur Championships. The Championships, which began Tuesday and run through Friday, are being held at Ridgeway Country Club in Memphis.

Holmes opened the first round with an 8-under-par 63 and was atop the leader board heading into Wednesday. After an even-par 71 in the second round, he is now one stroke behind Bobby Hudson and Derek Render who are tied for first at 9 under par.

Fellow UT golf team member Justin Walker is tied for 29th going into the third round. He is at 5 over par after 2-over-par 73 in the first round, followed by a 3-over-par 74 in the second.

The third round began at 8 a.m. Thursday, followed by the fourth and final round on Friday.
