Holmes finishes 6th at Tennessee State Amateur

Tennessee rising junior David Holmes finished tied for sixth as the 2008 Tennessee State Amateur Championships concluded Friday. The Championships, which began Tuesday, were held at Ridgeway Country Club in Memphis.

Holmes finished 4 under par for the tournament, tied with Jonathan Hodge of Jefferson City. Holmes fired a 1-under-par 70 in the final round to finish with a 54-hole total of 280.

Fellow UT teammate Justin Walker finished the tournament tied for 16th after he carded an even-par 70 in the final round. He was four over par after the final day.

Derek Rende of Soddy Daisy won the title with a final round 2-under-par 69 to finish the tournament 14 under par.
