UT's Layne Strikes Relay Gold in Mexico

TOLUCA, Mexico -- It was a gold medal weekend for University of Tennessee sprinter Lynne Layne.?? The Lady Vol sophomore took a turn with the baton as the U.S. 4x100-meter relay team raced to victory at the North America, Central America and Caribbean (NACAC) Under 23 Championships at Estadio Universitario.
Layne ran the third leg, joining Jessica Onyepunuka, Tawanna Meadows and Scottesha Miller, as the Americans edged Jamaica for the gold medal. Team USA, which also had an international 4x1 victory at the IAAF World Junior Championships last weekend in Poland with UT???s Jeneba Tarmoh then onboard, triumphed Saturday in a time of 43.64 seconds. The Jamaicans settled for the silver with a clocking of 43.73.?? The Dominican Republic was a distant third at 46.23.
The NACAC Athletic Association???s U23 Championships are held every two years in one of the 32 member nations of the North America, Central America and Caribbean Athletic Association, one of six regional athletics associations affiliated with the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF).
