Former Vol Skinns gets Hooters Tour win

Lauderhill, Fla. - It took 5 playoff holes and a 75 minute weather delay, but a 7 foot birdie putt on #18 sealed the win for David Skinns who outlasted Hernan ???Piri??? Borja at The First Tee Inverrary Classic in Lauderhill, Florida Sunday afternoon.

Skinns, a former University of Tennessee Volunteer survived a close call on the 4th playoff hole (#17) when Borja pushed a 4 footer for birdie that would have won the tournament for the Tour rookie.

???That kid made everything today,??? said Skinns. ???We got new life when we thought for sure we were dead.???

???I should???ve made that putt. No doubt about it,??? said the 22 year old from Coral Springs who was playing on a sponsor???s invite. ???I felt like Tiger Woods today. I made that putt more times today than I can count. I just pushed it and it cost me.???

Borja closed with a 5 under 67 to finish 16 under for the event. Skinns (Lincoln, England), the leader after rounds 2 and 3 fired a final round 2 under 70.

???It???s the biggest win of my career. No doubt,??? said Skinns who takes home $33,565 for his effort.

Former Vol Andrew Pratt finished tied for 40th at 289.

Borja was a member of the 2007 Division II National Championship team from Barry University.

Meanwhile Daytona???s Major Manning and Jacksonville Beach???s Russell Knox also carded 5 under 67???s to finish in a tie for 3rd.
??
Inverrary Country Club is the former home to the PGA Tours Jackie Gleason and Honda Classic.
??
The total purse for The First Tee Inverrary Classic was $200,000.
