SEC Meet Notes
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. ??? The Lady Vol swimming and diving team will take to the water on Wednesday to compete at the Southeastern Conference Championships in Tuscaloosa, Ala. The four-day meet will be held at the Alabama Aquatic Center with the prelims beginning at 10 a.m. CT, Thursday through Saturday, and the finals at 6 p.m. CT. The prelims on Wednesday are slated for a 12:30 p.m. start with the finals session at 6:30 p.m.
???We consider ourselves really fortunate to be where we are in the season right now,??? head swimming coach Matt Kredich said. ???We've put together a great dual meet season, we've improved a tremendous amount through training, we're relatively healthy and we get to go to the most exciting team meet in the country- the SEC Championships.
???Our goal is to keep improving as a team and make this the best meet of the year for an extraordinary group of young women. In doing so, we hope to qualify a lot of swimmers for the NCAA Championships and to have swimmers and divers competing well for individual and relay championships at this meet.???
The No. 7 Lade Vols head into the meet with a 5-3 overall record and are 2-3 versus conference opponents. They will face tough competition throughout the meet as four other schools are ranked in the top 25 by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA). Georgia tops the teams with a perfect 10-0 record and No. 1 ranking. Florida is ranked third, Auburn is fifth and LSU is No. 17. Tennessee will be prepared, however, as the squad already swam against Georgia, Florida and Auburn earlier in the year.
UT will attempt to improve upon its fifth-place finish at last year???s SEC Championships, held in Lexington, Ky.
