WARLICK AND CALDWELL TO PRESENT CHECKS??
Prior to tip-off tonight, Tennessee Lady Volunteer assistant coaches Holly Warlick and Nikki Caldwell will present a check to the Wellness Community of East Tennessee in Tom Cronan???s memory. Cronan, the late husband of UT women???s athletics director Joan Cronan, lost his battle with cancer in August 2006. On Sunday, Feb. 10, Warlick and Caldwell presented a check to N.C. State coach Kay Yow and the WBCA Cancer Fund at halftime of the Wolfpack???s game with Boston College in Raleigh. Both contributions come from a portion of the money raised during the coaches??? Cruisin??? for a Cause cross-county motorcycle ride against breast cancer. Last September, Warlick and Caldwell raised over $50,000 through their 11-day, 3,000 mile cross-country ride from Berkeley, California to Knoxville, Tennessee. They held rallies in seven cities along the ride, meeting with supporters and survivors and sharing the message of breast cancer prevention and awareness. This coming Spring, they will take to the road again on their Harley Davidsons, heading south and taking their ride against breast cancer from Knoxville to Key West, Fla. and back. The ride, beginning on May 11th, will again benefi t the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund, University of Tennessee Breast Health Outreach Program and The Wellness Community of East Tennessee.
THE 4-1-1 ON RUTGERS??
In the last game before meeting Tennessee, Rutgers leading scorer and sophomore guard Epiphanny Prince guided the Scarlet Knights to a come-from-behind, 73-71, victory over No. 1 UConn on Feb. 5. RU was trailing by 10 points with 16:19 remaining in the game and charged back to the win. Prince scored 27 of her career-high 33 points in the second half and fi nished with six rebounds and six assists while shooting 50 percent from the fl oor and going 11-for-11 from the charity stripe. Rutgers??? 73 points were the most scored against UConn since March 26, 2007.
LAST MEETING WITH RUTGERS??
After a nine-year title drought, the #3-ranked Tennessee Lady Vols captured an elusive seventh NCAA Championship title on April 3, 2007 in Cleveland, Ohio, after beating #15-ranked Rutgers in a 59- 46 struggle. UT sophomore All-American Candace Parker scored 17 points to lead the Lady Vols, but it was an all-around effort as Shannon Bobbitt scored 13 points -- nine of them on treys in a quick span in the second half -- and Nicky Anosike who gathered a career high 16 rebounds for the Lady Vols, who had 24 offensive boards. The 16 boards in a title game tied for the third-most in NCAA Tournament history. Anosike???s 30 career tournament blocks put her in fourth place all-time in the annals. Trailing by 11 at halftime, Rutgers regrouped and closed UT???s lead to 35-28 on Kia Vaughn???s putback with 13:33 left. That???s when Bobbitt hit the fi rst of three threepointers in a span of 2:43. The fi rst one came after two offensive rebounds by the Lady Vols. After a Rutgers turnover, Bobbitt drained another three. On the next RU possession, Bobbitt forced a turnover that led to a layup by Alexis Hornbuckle. One minute later, Bobbitt hit another one from beyond the arc. A three-pointer by Matee Ajavon ended a 7-0 run that brought Rutgers to 50-42, but Parker made six straight free throws in 37 seconds to make it 56- 44 with 1:08 left. Coach Pat Summitt???s 947th career win was one of her sweetest. The 2007 Lady Vols smoked the program record for best defensive average, allowing just 55.5 points per contest. It was rebounding and defense that won the NCAA Title as UT shot more poorly than either of its Final Four opponents but held both rebounding margins in UT???s worst rebounding season ever. Parker earned Most Outstanding Player honors and Anosike and Bobbitt joined her on the All-Final Four Team.
FROM NEW YORK CITY??
Three Scarlet Knights and two Lady Vols hail from the Big Apple. RU???s Sophomore Epiphanny Prince is from Brooklyn, where she attended Murry Bergtraum with Lady Vol senior Shannon Bobbitt -- they won city and the state titles at Bergtraum (the Lady Blazers) in 2003 and 2004. Prince is joined by sophomore Brittany Ray and junior Kia Vaughn from the Bronx. UT???s Bobbitt calls Manhattan her home, while senior Nicky Anosike claims Staten Island as her native borough.
FOUR DEGREES OF SEPARATION??
Rutgers??? senior Essence Carson has a special connection to the 1989 movie ???Lean on Me??? and Tennessee athletics. Carson attended Eastside High School in Paterson, N.J., the setting for the movie starring Morgan Freeman. Freeman???s character, the bat-wielding principal, was none other than Joe Clark, the father of Tennessee Head Track & Field and Cross Country Coach J.J. Clark.
HALL OF FAME COACHING STAFFS??
Both Tennessee and Rutgers can boast of Women???s Basketball Hall of Fame head coach inductees in Pat Head Summitt and C. Vivian Stringer. Summitt earned the honor when she was selected as a member of the inaugural class of 1999, while Stringer was a 2001 inductee. Not only are the head coaches members of the WBHOF but each team also sports an assistant as a member of the Hall. Lady Vol associate head coach Holly Warlick was inducted as a player in the Class of 2001 with Coach Stringer. Rutgers assistant coach Marianne Stanley was inducted in 2002. Stanley is no stranger to Summitt or Warlick -- her Old Dominion Lady Monarch teams battled Tennessee in the 1970s and 80s for national supremacy.
UT NOW A BIG EAST MEMBER, SORTA??
The Tennessee Lady Vols will be a southern extension member of the BIG EAST Conference once again this season. UT played #16/17 West Virginia (Nov. 21, a 67-49 win), #15 DePaul (Jan. 2, a 102-68 win), and #14 Notre Dame (Jan 5, an 87-63 win). The Lady Vols will now entertain Rutgers in Knoxville.
UT VERSUS THE BIG EAST??
Tennessee has taken on 11 of the 16 teams in the BIG EAST Conference all-time and sports a 74-19 (.789) record. Only three teams have claimed victories over UT. UConn has topped Tennessee 13 times while Cincinnati and Rutgers have defeated UT on three occasions each.
ELEVEN MEETINGS WITH RANKED??
Rutgers will be the 11th ranked team that the Lady Vols have met in 23 games this season. UT is 9-1 vs. ranked teams this season. Most recently, Tennessee defeated #9/10-ranked Duke, 67-64. UT also routed #15 DePaul before traveling to South Bend and defeating #14 Notre Dame and then returned home to put a 33-point hurting on No. 20/22 Auburn. The Scarlet Knights share a loss with UT to then-#7/8 Stanford, RU has also gone down in defeat to #17/15 Duke and #12/14 West Virginia. Rutgers has defeated #12/14 George Washington, #6/5 LSU, #3/3 Maryland, #12/11 Cal, #14/19 Pitt and #1/1 UConn.

BUNCH OF RANKED MEETINGS??
In the 16 meetings between the two schools, Tennessee has been ranked higher 14 times. Tonight???s game will mark the 10th time that the Lady Vols have faced the Scarlet Knights as either the number one or two ranked team in the nation.
MADE HISTORY TOO??
On Jan. 17, 1994, a nasty ice storm pummeled New Jersey. Despite that, a huge crowd was on hand at the RAC to watch an unranked Rutgers team upset the #1-ranked Tennessee Lady Vols, 87-77. It marked the fi rst time an unranked team had knocked off #1 in women???s hoops.
PAT AND C. VIVIAN??
Head coach Pat Summitt???s squads have plenty of experience in battling teams coached by Rutgers head coach C. Vivian Stringer, having faced her while she was patrolling the sidelines at Cheyney, Iowa and now Rutgers. Summitt???s Tennessee team faced Stringer???s Cheyney squad in the 1984 NCAA Final Four semifi nals in Los Angeles (Pauley Pavilion) where UT took a 82-73 decision. Tennessee played against Stringer???s Iowa team in the 1993 NCAA Mideast Regional Championship game. Iowa took a 72-56 decision to advance to the Final Four. In 2000, the Lady Vols topped Rutgers, 64-54, to advance to the NCAA title game. The Lady Vols also faced Rutgers in the in the 2005 Philadelphia Regional title game (a 59-49 UT win), in Cleveland at the 2006 NCAA Regional semifi nals (a 76-69 UT win) and the 2007 Final Four Championship game (a 59-46 win) in Cleveland, Ohio. Overall, Summitt is 11-2 against Coach Stringer posting 1-0 against her while at Cheyney, 2-1 at Iowa and is now 8-1 against Rutgers since her arrival. Both have been very successful in their careers, with either Stringer or Summitt appearing in 21 of the 26 Final Fours with their respective teams.
GOLDEN GIRLS??
Lady Vols Alexis Hornbuckle and Nicky Anosike and Scarlet Knight Matee Ajavon were teammates this summer and helped to bring home the gold from the 2007 Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

THINKING PINK IN KNOXVILLE??
The Jimmy V Foundation for Cancer Research, in collaboration with the Women???s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA), launched the ???THINK PINK??? initiative in early December. It honors NC State women???s coach Kay Yow, who worked alongside Jim Valvano at NC State before he succumbed to cancer in 1993. Yow, who has more than 700 coaching victories, was fi rst diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987 and learned in November 2007 that she has stage-four cancer. More than 900 universities have signed on to celebrate the ???Think Pink??? initiative. Fans watching the game from home will get an opportunity to see Tennessee coach Pat Summitt join forces with Connecticut coach Geno Auriemma in an ESPN-produced public service announcement for the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund.
CUE THE THEME SONG FROM M*A*S*H??
Number two-ranked Tennessee suffered injuries to three players during the Feb. 7, 87-69 victory over Mississippi State on the road. After x-rays and physician consultations, Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine Jenny Moshak issued the following report: ???X-rays confi rmed that Angie Bjorklund did break her nose. The nose will be splinted and she will be able to participate. Alberta Auguste suffered a reoccurrence of her earlier shoulder/biceps strain. She is considered day-to-day. Candace Parker sustained a bruise to her left knee. X-rays showed normal for her surgically repaired knee. We???ll take it day-by-day for her as well.??? Bjorklund caught a fi st to her nose at the 17:52 mark in the second half. She returned to the game 14 minutes later to sub for Auguste, who had subbed in for Bjorklund during her injury earlier in the game. No sooner had Auguste taken a seat on the bench, than Parker went down in a sprawl on the baseline after missing a shot and trying to retrieve the rebound with 3:09 left in the game.
PARKER AND ANOSIKE EARN ACADEMIC HONOR??
Lady Vols Candace Parker and Nicky Anosike were named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District IV fi rst team announced by the College of Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Feb. 7. This marks the second consecutive year that the two have earned a spot on the fi rst team. Parker, an ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America last season, recorded a 3.50 GPA in the fall semester in her sport management major and has been an SEC All-Academic selection for the past three years. Anosike, who picked up Academic All-District IV third team honors in 2006 and fi rst team honors in 2007, has a staggering 3.78 cumulative GPA in her triple major of sociology/criminal justice, political science and legal studies. She was named Academic All-Southeastern Conference in 2005, 2006 and 2007 and has earned Lady Vol Honor Roll and UT Dean???s List honors every semester of her collegiate career.
PARKER NAMED WBCA PLAYER OF THE MONTH??
Tennessee standout junior, Candace Parker, has been named the Women???s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) National Player of the Month for January for the fi rst time in her career. Parker, the reigning State Farm Wade Trophy Player of the Year, shot 63 percent from the fi eld en route to averaging 19.1 points per game during the month, as the Lady Vols cruised through January with a perfect 9-0 record. The 6-4 Parker, who plays all positions on the court, pulled down 8.1 rebounds per game last month and also averaged 2.3 assists, 1.8 blocks and 3.1 steals. Her performances against Kentucky and Vanderbilt during the week of January 14-20 earned her the SEC Player of the Week award, her third this season.
LEX IS CLOSING THE GAP??
Senior Alexis Hornbuckle picked up three steals in the game against Miss. State on Feb. 7. She currently stands in second place in the UT record books for career thefts. Hornbuckle (322) needs 12 more to break Bridgette Gordon???s 19-year old school record (333).
LEAD-O-PHOBIA??
UT has dealt with several cases of lead-o-phobia this year as some big leads have evaporated in several games this season. Most recently, Tennessee raced out to a 13 point lead over Mississippi State in Starkville in the opening 3:49 of the game. The Lady Vols then went scoreless for eight minutes as MSU went on a 21-0 run to take an eight point lead. UT regained the advantage three minutes into the second half and led by as many as 20 in the second stanza. Against Stanford, UT was up by 11 with two minutes to go before the half and had to settle for a six point lead. In the previous game, with UCLA, UT started on a roll up by seven and let the Bruins tie the game. MTSU carved a UT 15-point lead to just fi ve in six minutes and WVU had a similar experience. UNC answered four UT runs and took it to one point each time from a +10, +11 and +13 advantage.
SEC LOCKDOWN??
In SEC games this season, the Lady Vols have turned up their defense, holding opponents to an average of just 52.8 points per game in contests versus then-#22/20-ranked Auburn, South Carolina, Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Arkansas, Ole Miss and Mississippi State. Additionally, UT???s margin of victory in SEC games has jumped 10 points more per game than the season???s overall games winning average ??? against SEC opposition, UT???s winning margin is 26.3 ppg. Other ???lockdown??? factors???Kentucky didn???t score until 14:18 left in the fi rst half ??? the longest opening drought by a UT opponent this season??? UT had an 18-0 run-out versus Arkansas before they hit their fi rst basket at 15:18...Tennessee held three opponents to under 20 fi rst-half points (Ole Miss (13), South Carolina (14), Kentucky (19)).
TWO SEC TEAMS STILL UNDEFEATED??
Tennessee (8-0) and LSU (8-0) are the only undefeated teams remaining in SEC league play.
EIGHT WAS GREAT??
Over the years, eight Lady Vols teams have gone undefeated in SEC play: 1993, 1994, 1995, 1998, 2001, 2003, 2004 and 2007.
SEC TWOSIES??
This season, the Lady Vols will face Kentucky, from the SEC East, and Mississippi State, from the SEC West, in home-and-home games along with traditional rival Vanderbilt. In 2001, when UT last played UK twice in the regular season, the Lady Vols won 110-38 in Lexington and 83-39 in Knoxville six days later.
LADY VOLS ON A 16-0 HOME WINNING STREAK??
The Tennessee Lady Vols are currently riding a 16-game winning streak at home. UT has not lost in Thompson-Boling Arena since a 74-70 setback to top-ranked Duke on Jan. 22, 2007. This marks the 10th longest home winning skein for the Lady Vols.
THOMPSON-BOLING ARENA ??? WELCOME TO ???THE SUMMITT?????
The playing court in the Thompson-Boling Arena on the University of Tennessee campus donned a new look for the 2005-06 season. After Lady Vol coach Pat Summitt passed Dean Smith for most NCAA collegiate basketball wins of all-time with a 75-54 win over Purdue on Mar. 22, 2005, UT named the TBA court, ???The Summitt.??? The fl oor had a complete overhaul with permanent logos of both the Lady Vols and Vols painted directly in front of the scorer???s table; the free throw lanes were painted orange with ???SEC??? reversed out; the giant jump circle/ mid-court TENNESSEE was given a new brighter color scheme, and ???The Summitt,??? Coach Summitt???s actual signature adorns the sidelines opposite the team benches.
ON OUR WAY TO 300 WINS??
Tennessee recorded its 200th win in Thompson- Boling Arena when the Lady Vols defeated the University of Southern California on Nov. 18, 2001, 106-66. UT has now amassed a 292-17 (.943) record since the Orange and White moved into the Thompson-Boling Arena to start the 1987-88 season 20-years ago. Along the way, the Lady Vols have produced nine fl awless home records in 1988-89 (15-0), 1991-92 (14-0), 1992-93 (13-0), 1993-94 (15- 0), 1994-95 (15-0), 1997-98 (16-0), 1998-99 (14-0), 2000-01 (15-0) and 2002-03 (16-0). UT also registered an NCAA record 69-game home court-winning streak from Feb. 1, 1991 thru Jan. 2, 1996.
JUST 17 LOSSES??
The Tennessee Lady Vols rarely lose at home. In fact, since moving to the Thompson-Boling Arena for the 1987-88 campaign, UT has lost two games in one season just six times. UT lost two games in TBA during the inaugural 1987-88 campaign, 1996- 97, 1999-00, 2001-02, 2003-04 and the 2005-06 seasons. The 17 all-time losses at TBA have come at the hands of just nine teams: Florida (2006), LSU (2006), Duke (2004 and 2007), Connecticut (2004, 2002, 2000, 1996), Louisiana Tech (1999, 1989), Georgia (1996, 1991), Texas (2003, 2002, 1987), Stanford (1996) and Auburn (1988).
HOME SWEET HOME -- OVER 400 HOME WINS??
The victory over Georgia on Jan. 31, 2005, was the Lady Vols 400th home win since Pat Summitt took over as head coach in 1974. Summitt has won 91.4 percent of all home games in 34 years producing a 442-42 overall record. Home losses (in the Summitt era) include: six in Alumni Gym from 1974- 76; 18 in Stokely Athletics Center from 1976-87; and 17 in Thompson-Boling Arena since 1987.
ON THE ROAD -- SELLOUTS AND SUCH??
With the addition of Duke, four opponents (#10 Duke, #4 Stanford, #15 DePaul and #14 Notre Dame) have all enjoyed advance sellouts of their games with Tennessee. The Lady Vols have played to season-high crowds at Duke (9,314), Kentucky (7,278), South Carolina (7,841) UCLA (4,002) and Ole Miss (3,120). UT has also played to a record crowd in one of its 10 games away from home. UT???s game versus West Virginia at a neutral site in Charleston, WV, produced the record for the largest crowd ever to see a women???s game in state of West Virginia (10,677). On the road, the Lady Vols are attracting an average of 7,065 fans per site in 2007- 08. Tennessee has been a hot road ticket since the 1994-95 season when 7,724 per game showed up on the road. Since then, UT has produced 10 other seasons of plus-7,000 fans per game on the road.
10-YEAR LOOK AT ATTENDANCE??
The Tennessee Lady Vols staying power with the home fans is evidenced by the huge numbers who have turned for games in Knoxville since 1990. Tennessee has won the attendance challenge 12 out of the last 18 years. Since 2000 alone, the Lady Vols have attracted 1,482,754 to 104 home games for an average of 14,257 spectators per game. Texas Tech is second with 1,317,848 attending 108 games in Lubbock for an average of 12,202. Connecticut ranks third with 1,534,673 folks at 128 games for an average of 11,989.
100 POINT GAMES??
Since 1974, the Lady Vols have gone over the century mark 69 times. Most recently, DePaul allowed 102 Tennessee points on Jan. 2, 2008. Last season, UT eclipsed 100 points in the opening game of the season against UT-Chattanooga with 102 points. The 1987-88 team hit triple digits in seven games to lead the NCAA.
IN OVERTIME??
The Lady Vols are 25-14 all-time in overtime games. The most OT games in a year was tied in 2003-04 with four as the Lady Vols went 3-1 in overtime losing to Georgia, 68-66, and defeating Auburn, 68-61, DePaul, 96-89, and Stanford, 70-66. It tied the mark set in 1996-97, when the Lady Vols were 3-1 in overtime contests losing to Georgia, 94-93, and defeating Texas, 68-65, Vanderbilt, 92-79 and LSU, 100-99. UT???s 22 points in the OT against Florida (2-3-05), was the most ever scored by the Lady Vols in a single overtime. UT???s most recent OT affair was a 73-69 loss to Stanford on Dec. 22, 2007, on the road.
