The Tennessee baseball team wraps up its 2008 Orange & White World Series with a winner-take-all game seven on Friday afternoon at Robert M. Lindsay Field at Lindsey Nelson Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m., and admission to the game is free.
"We have had a really good and productive fall," Tennessee baseball coach Todd Raleigh said. "With the series tied at three games apiece, Friday will provide an exciting close to the fall season and this year's World Series."
Down 3-2 in the series heading into last weekend's game six, the White team rallied four times to top the Orange team 10-6 and force a game seven.
Junior left-hander Nick Hernandez will take the mound for the Orange team against freshman left-hander Adam Adkins for the White. Hernandez has a 1-1 record with a 0.75 ERA in 12 innings pitched this fall. He has also recorded 12 strikeouts while walking only one. Adkins is making his first start of the fall for the White team but has appeared three times out of the bullpen.
Offensively, the White team has been led this fall by sophomore outfielder Kentrail Davis. The center fielder is hitting .526 with 10 hits and seven RBI in the six games thus far. Davis has hit one home run, walked four times and looks to be a serious contender for SEC and NCAA Player of the Year honors in 2009.
Across the diamond, Tyler Horne has been the leader at the plate for the Orange Team. Horne ranks second behind Davis with a .478 batting average and has collected 11 hits and four RBI.
Cody Hawn leads both teams with four home runs and 14 RBI this fall. The sophomore transfer from Walters State ranks fourth with a .333 average at the plate.
Friday marks the end of Tennessee baseball's fall season. The 2009 season begins Friday, Feb. 20, with a three-game series against 2006 and 2007 national champion Oregon State.
