"Live in the present, launch yourself on every wave, find eternity in each moment..." ~ Thoreau
Too often, I believe that we find ourselves looking forward to the next step. Whether it's in swimming, by looking to the next set, the next meet, even the next season, or in life in general, we want to be at the next stage. In the process of doing this, though, we miss things. We miss opportunities to excel at what we are accomplishing. We miss the enjoyment of each activity as it comes. But most of all, I think we miss the true experiences as they happen and only see them as we look back.
The present, however, can be an invaluable building block for things to come. This season, I want to take every experience as it comes, enjoy it, learn from it, and use it to make each step through the season even better. I want to use each practice, each meet, as a wave, building momentum to help this team achieve its goals to becoming the best team we possibly can.
Finally, by living in the present and using it to build momentum, we can make each moment in this season last for eternity. With the focus and drive to take the season moment by moment, each moment can become something unique that can never be repeated. I feel that, if we all live in the moment and ride the waves, we will have a season we can never forget.
