STANFORD, Calif. ??? Rising senior Lauren LeRoy competed in her first senior national championship yesterday at the Avery Aquatic Center in Stanford, Calif. The Wisconsin native qualified for the 2007 Kaiser Permanente National Diving Championships on July 24 by placing seventh from the three-meter board at the USA Diving National Preliminary Zone A in Boyds, Md.
LeRoy???s score of 179.50 placed her 36th. Her scores from each of the five dives were: 48.00, 25.00, 39.15, 28.00 and 39.15.
???It was a great experience and I am thankful I was able to come,??? LeRoy said. ???I didn???t dive well, but it put the upcoming season in perspective and I can now concentrate on what I need to do for next year. If anything, it was a good wake up call.???
LeRoy had a breakout junior season last year with the Lady Vols, placing first in 11 of 22 contests. She recorded new career highs from both the one- and three-meter boards and took over as the top Lady Vol scorer from the three meter (367.80 at Florida). The two-time Southeastern Conference Diver of the Week earned a silver medal at the conference championships with a 319.75 score from the one-meter board. She also took home her first All-America certificate by placing 15th from the three meter at the NCAA Championships in Minneapolis, Minn., on March 9.
