Former UT Standout Wins Alliance Bank Golf Classic

SYRACUSE, N.Y. ??? 2006 graduate of the University of Tennessee, Violeta Retamoza, won the Alliance Bank Golf Classic at The Links at Erie Village in Syracuse, N.Y., today. Retamoza came back from shooting a 75 on the first day to finish with a five-under-par 208 (75-66-67) and the individual crown. The title is her first since joining the Duramed Futures Tour this year and fourth top-10 finish.
From Aguascalientes, Mexico, Retamoza played for the Lady Vols from 2002-06. She was a two-time National Golf Coaches Association All-American and tabbed by the Southeastern Conference as the Freshman of the Year in 2003 and Player of the Year in 2005. She also holds the UT record for most individual tournament titles (three) and was the top Lady Vol scorer at both the 2005 and 2006 NCAA Championships.
Other former Lady Vols who have played on the Duramed Futures Tour are Stacey Bergman, Anna Umemura and current UT assistant coach Carrie Cole. Jessica Shepley, a 2005 graduate of the university, is also on the Tour. She tied for 42nd at the Alliance Bank Golf Classic this weekend with a 220 total.
