Tennessee Aquatics Swimmers Reach Finals at Southern Sectional

AUBURN, Ala. ??? Christine Magnuson and Jacque Fessel recorded Olympic Trial qualifying times in the 100m butterfly at the Speedo Champions Series Southern Sectional today by placing third and fifth in the finals, respectively. Magnuson, who picked up her first qualifying time in the event at the Nashville Summer Sizzler last month, improved on her lifetime best by nearly two seconds after touching the wall in 59.94 in the finals and 59.77 in the preliminary session. Fessel placed fifth with an OT time of 1:01.14.
Also in the 100m fly finals, soon-to-be Lady Vol Tricia Weaner placed 31st in 1:04.79. Morgan Farrell, another Tennessee rookie next year, finished 20th in a Junior National qualifying time of 1:03.90. She is competing this week for her hometown team of Greater Pensacola Aquatics Club.
Weaner, from Gettysburg, Pa., also swam in the finals session of the 400m freestyle. She was 12th in the ???B??? final with a time of 4:25.69.
In the 100m breast, 2007 UT graduate Tiffany Clay was the only member of Tennessee Aquatics to make the finals. She placed 13th in the ???B??? final in 1:13.98.
The foursome of Brittany Nauta, Brooke Boncher, Ashley Quinn and Magnuson represented Tennessee Aquatics in the 800m freestyle relay event. They produced a ninth-place finish with a National qualifying time of 8:39.38.
The last day of the meet begins with the preliminaries at 9:30 a.m. CT tomorrow. The finals session is at 5:30 p.m.
