KANE NAMED TO SEC TRACK AND FIELD COMMUNITY SERVICE TEAM

Tennessee freshman Chris Kane was named to the SEC Track and Field Community Service Team by the conference office Monday.
Kane, a distance runner who also runs for the Vols cross country team, participated in 13 community service activities throughout the 2006-07 school year. The Karns High School graduate volunteered for Habitat for Humanity twice. He participated in Race for the Cure and is a PRIDE Award Speaker. He participated in a Make-A-Wish Event, Prom of the Stars and the East Tennessee Children's Hospital Visit. He was a Salvation Army Bell Ringer and participated in the Karns Middle School Tutoring program. He helped with the Lonsdale Elementary School College to Career Day and the Book Blast Reading Event. Kane also volunteered at the Knoxville Marathon and at April Play Day.
The SEC sponsors Community Service Teams for all 20 league sponsored sports. The Community Service Team looks to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to his community in superior service efforts. The complete team can be found at SECsports.com.
KINGS NAME FORMER VOL CHAD SMITH AS STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING COACH
LOS ANGELES - The Los Angeles Kings have named former Vol Chad Smith as Strength and Conditioning Coach, Kings President/General Manager Dean Lombardi and Kings Head Coach Marc Crawford announced today. Smith, a UT letterman from 1994-96, earned All-America acclaim in 1995 with his second-place finish at the NCAA Outdoor Championships and won back-to-back SEC decathlon titles in 1995 and 1996.
