THE GAME The #2-ranked Tennessee Lady Vols (25-2, 12-0 SEC) will be looking for their 13th consecutive SEC victory of the season traveling to meet an unpredictable Arkansas squad (18-10, 3-9 SEC) on Senior Night in Fayetteville, Ark. The Lady Razorbacks will salute seniors: Dominique Washington, Danielle Allen, Leslie Howard and Sarah Pfiefer. LADY VOLS AT A GLANCE This is the Lady Vols' 33rd season under Head Coach Pat Summitt...She has compiled a staggering 938-179 overall record... Is just 62 wins away from a remarkable 1,000 career victories...Collected her 900th coaching win with a 80-68 decision over #19-ranked Vanderbilt on Jan. 19, 2006... She passed Dean Smith (879 wins) for most NCAA collegiate basketball wins of all-time with a 75-54 victory over Purdue on Mar. 22, 2005 ...Her 2005-06 squad advanced to the NCAA Elite 8...Finished with a 31-5 overall record and were the SEC Tournament Champions... This season, UT returned six letterwinners, welcomed a senior manager turned player, two junior college transfers and a pair of rookies...The 2006-07 season marked the Lady Vol debut for former senior manager Elizabeth Curry, JC transfers Shannon Bobbitt and Alberta Auguste...True freshman are Cait McMahan and Nicci Moats. 2007 SEC CHAMPS Tennessee's win over LSU on Feb. 19 clinched the 2007 SEC Championship for the Lady Vols. It marks the 14th time that the Lady Vols have won the SEC regular season title and the first time since 2004. THE 4-1-1 ON THE LADY RAZORBACKS In the University of Arkansas' last outing before entertaining Tennessee, the Lady Razorbacks' had a tough time at the University of Kentucky and dropped an 87-60 decision on Feb. 18 in Lexington. It marked the first-ever meeting of the two teams at Rupp Arena. The loss dropped Arkansas to 18-10 overall and 3-9 in Southeastern Conference games. UA will be seeded somewhere in the 8-9-10 slots depending on the outcome of final SEC games versus Tennessee and at Georgia. Against the Cats, freshman Donica Cosby led the Lady'Backs with 13 points. Junior Lauren Ervin was the only other Arkansas player in double digits with 11 points and nine rebounds. Trailing by 12 at halftime, Arkansas used a quick four-point outburst at the start of the second half. The Lady'Backs got within six, 49-43, with 16 minutes left. Shooting less than 30% for the second half, Arkansas' defensive effort forcing turnovers could not make up for a red-hot Kentucky. UK shot over 60% for the game, while the Lady'Backs hit only 27.4%. OUR SCHEDULE THIS WEEK This week, the Lady Vols traveled to #7 LSU for an ESPN2 match-up on Feb. 19 (a 56-51 win)...head to Arkansas on Feb. 22...and finish the regular season at home versus #12 Vanderbilt on Feb. 25. LADY VOLS ON TV A record 21 Lady Vol regular season games are slated for national/regional television this season. Five non-televised games will be available as streaming video with voice-over from Mickey Dearstone on utladyvols.com. UT is 18-2 on TV this season. ON THIS DAY UT is 11-3 in games played on Feb. 22. The Lady Vols are 7-2 at home, 4-1 on the road and 0-0 on neutral courts. The last time out on Feb. 22, the Lady Vols registered an 85-69 victory at Ole Miss in 2004. LOOKING BACK Last year at this time, the Lady Vols were 24-3 and had just defeated Alabama, 82-65. WOW, JUST TWO TO GO It's hard to believe that there are just two games to go in the regular season. UT's stretch run to the SEC Tournament includes a dangerous slate. Tennessee travels to Arkansas (Feb. 22) and returns home for "Senior Day" versus #12 Vanderbilt (Feb. 25). Tennessee has a 12-0 record in SEC play and has clinched the SEC title. The Lady Vols will be the number one seed at the 2007 SEC Tournament will be held Mar. 1-4 in Duluth, Ga. FIRST ROUND-- Thursday, March 1 ARKANSAS NOTEBOOK Arkansas (18-10, 3-9 SEC) opened the season with a hot 15-1 record and tore through the opposition. The Lady'Backs' only blemish entering SEC play was a 94-69 loss to (then) #2-ranked North Carolina. Since the fast start, Arkansas has gone 3-9 since January with wins over Auburn, Alabama and Florida.
UA SERIES TIDBITS Tennessee leads the all-time series with Arkansas 17-1, dating back to the 1991-92 season, the Lady'Backs' first in the SEC. Arkansas' lone series win came at home on Dec. 29, 1996, a 77-75 victory over the Chamique Holdsclaw-led Lady Vols. Since then, UT has won 12 straight over Arkansas. AVERAGE SCORE The average score of a Tennessee vs. Arkansas game is UT 83.9 (1,511) and UA 62.2 (1,120). The Lady Vols average margin of victory is +21.7 points.. CAREER STATS VS. ARKANSAS In all-time action versus Arkansas, sophomore Candace Parker put up impressive numbers in her first meeting with the 'Backs last season. Parker scored 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds while shooting 70% from the field. Junior Nicky Anosike averages 7.3 ppg and 5.0 rpg while fellow junior Alexis Hornbuckle adds 5.3 ppg and rips 7.0 rpg. This will mark the sixth meeting against Arkansas for Lady Vol seniors Sidney Spencer and Dominique Redding. Returning Lady Vol career statistics versus Arkansas can be found on p. 63 in the 2006-07 Tennessee media guide. THE ARKANSAS COACH Fourth year Arkansas head coach Susie Gardner is a native of the Volunteer State as she was born in Mt. Juliet, Tenn. Gardner is no stranger to the SEC or Thompson-Boling Arena. She played for Georgia from 1982-86 before serving as a graduate assistant for UGA from 1986-88. As head coach at Austin Peay in Clarksville, Tenn., Gardner led the Lady Govs to three-straight Ohio Valley Conference titles as well as a 16-0 regular season resume in 2003. She coached her first game as a Division I head coach on Nov. 15, 1996 against the Lady Vols losing 80-59 in TBA. When her APSU team played in the 2001 NCAA Tournament, they faced the Lady Vols in opening round action in Knoxville and fell, 80-38. OUR LAST MEETING The #5-ranked Tennessee Lady Vols put it together down the stretch against Arkansas, 77-37, in Thompson-Boling Arena on Feb. 5, 2006. UT senior Shanna Zolman scored 21 points and the Lady Vols scored 33 of the last 36 points in a 77-37 win over the Lady Razorbacks. Tennessee (21-2, 7-1 Southeastern Conference) looked lethargic on offense for most of the game, but that changed in the second half. The Lady Razorbacks cut it to 44-34 on Rochelle Vaughn's jumper with 11:12 left when Tennessee's offense and defense finally took over. Rookie post Candace Parker added 18 for Tennessee and junior Alexis Hornbuckle had 10 points, six assists and eight rebounds. Hornbuckle scored twice and Zolman hit a trey to start the run. Parker scored nine straight points during the spurt. Arkansas (13-9, 5-4), held to a season low in points, lost its third in a row in SEC play and 12th straight to Tennessee. The Lady Razorbacks have never won in Knoxville and the win over UA was UT's 64th consecutive over an SEC foe at home. Arkansas appeared to have trouble overcoming Tennessee's size advantage as the Lady Vols outrebounded Arkansas 45-28. The Lady Razorbacks shot 26 percent (14-of-53) from the floor. Melissa Hobbs scored 12 points for Arkansas. Tennessee had a strong first half. The Lady Razorbacks cut it to 19-15 on Leslie Howard's 3 with 6:02 left, but the Lady Vols had a quick 7-0 run to push the lead to 11. Howard hit another 3 to trim it to 28-21 with 2:50 left, and Tennessee answered by scoring the last five points of the half, taking a 33-21 lead into the locker room. Howard accounted for nearly half of the Lady Razorbacks' offense by hitting three wide open 3-pointers before halftime. But she was scoreless in the second half.
FACING THE RANKED Tennessee faced their 12th ranked opponent of the 2006-07 season in the win over #7-ranked LSU on Feb. 19. UT is 10-2 in games versus ranked teams out of 27 total contests. Meanwhile Arkansas will be taking on their sixth ranked opponent in 29 games when they face #2 Tennessee. Arkansas is 0-5 vs. ranked teams: Arkansas lost to (then) #2 North Carolina (94-69), #11 Vanderbilt (98-61), #8 LSU (70-53), #15 Vanderbilt (61-34) and #7 LSU (86-65). At number two, Tennessee and UNC will be the highest ranked teams the Lady'Backs have played this season. FACING THE UNRANKED When taking on an unranked opponent such as Arkansas, the odds have typically tipped in Tennessee's favor. In her 33 years at the helm of the Lady Vols, UT head coach Pat Summitt has fashioned a 559-32 (.947) record when going up against unranked teams. SEC TWOSIES The SEC plays a 14-game regular season schedule with each team playing everyone in the league once, a natural rival twice and designated rotating teams from the SEC East and West once extra time. The Lady Vols face Vanderbilt twice each season as its natural rival and this year once again face Georgia and Alabama twice. Last season, Tennessee went 6-0 in these games during the regular season. This season, UT is 5-0 with a game still to be played versus Vanderbilt. UT WINNING STREAKS VS. SEC TEAMS Alabama, 32 in a row, since 3-23-1984 THE SEC REGULAR SEASON STORY UT's last SEC win at home: Ole Miss, 81-69, 2-15-07 AGAINST THE SOUTHEASTERN CONFERENCE Tennessee owns a 377-57 record all-time record vs. 12 teams from the Southeastern Conference. The Lady Vols maintain a winning record against every team in the SEC. UT IS AMAZING AT HOME VERSUS THE SEC Since Tennessee began contesting games with Southeastern Conference opponents, the Lady Vols have produced a 156-11 record in all games played at home. Only six SEC teams have ever managed a victory over the Lady Vols in Knoxville - Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, LSU and Ole Miss. Georgia has won three games on UT's turf while Auburn, Kentucky and Ole Miss have registered two wins each and LSU and Florida one win. Georgia was the only team to defeat UT at home in the 1990s - the Lady Bulldogs turned the trick in 1991 and 1996. LSU and Florida are the only SEC teams to defeat UT at home in the 21st century. WOW--14 SEASONS OF AT LEAST 10 SEC VICTORIES In the win over Kentucky on Feb. 11, 2007, Tennessee claimed its 10th SEC victory of the 2006-07 season. The Lady Vols have now registered double-digit victories in conference play an incredible 14 times. Since the 1991-92 season when SEC play expanded, the Lady Vols have won at least 10 games in the following years: 1992-10 wins, 1993-11 wins, 1994-11 wins, 1995-11 wins, 1998-14 wins, 1999-13 wins, 2000-13 wins, 2001- 14 wins, 2002- 13 wins, 2003- 14 wins, 2004-14 wins, 2005- 13 wins, 2006-11 wins and 2007- 12 wins (2 to go). SPOILED, I TELL YOU Prior to last season, it had been nine years since the Lady Vols dropped three SEC league games during a season. In the 1996-97 HBO documentary campaign of "The Cinderella Season: The Lady Vols Fight Back," Tennessee went 8-4 in the SEC. All-time in 25 years of league play, Tennessee has lost two or more SEC games just seven times. Conversely, the Lady Vols have tallied seven perfect league campaigns in SEC play. SEC LEAGUE PLAY UT owns a league best record of 251-33 against all SEC teams dating back to the 1982-83 season. THIS IS AMAZING From 1980-1997, the Lady Vols claimed a total of six SEC regular season titles in 17 years. From 1998-2004, Tennessee captured seven consecutive SEC regular season crowns producing an amazing 109-4 record. UT's only league losses were to Vandy, Georgia and LSU (twice) during this stretch. AP POLL NOTES This is the 31st year of the Associated Press women's basketball rankings. The first Associated Press poll released of the 2005-06 season marked the 500th all-time poll. Since the poll was started in 1976, UT has failed to appear in just 14 of the total of 533 polls through the years. Currently, UT has been ranked in 392 consecutive polls. Since the 1986-87 season, the Lady Vols have been in the top 10 for all but one poll. UT is the only team to have been ranked every year for the last 31 years of the poll. UT has appeared at least once per season over the poll's history. LAST TIME IN FAYETTEVILLE Senior Shyra Ely scored a season-high 30 points as the sixth-ranked Tennessee Lady Vols defeated Arkansas, 84-71, at the Bud Walton Arena on Feb. 20, 2005. The victory was UT's second against the Lady Razorbacks in the 2004-05 season, as it prevailed 72-54 in Knoxville on Jan. 13. Early in the contest, the Big Orange's tough defense enabled it to take a 10-3 advantage, as it held Arkansas to just one field goal for nearly the first eight minutes of play. Pat Summitt's squad then rattled off an 11-2 run, capped by a three-pointer by Brittany Jackson, to extend the margin to 16 points with 10:22 to play in the opening frame. While Arkansas cut the difference to 13 points with just less than five minutes showing, the Lady Vols responded with a 9-2 run to take its biggest lead of the game, 39-19. At the break, Tennessee held a comfortable 39-22 lead, thanks in part to its defense that held the opposition to just 21.4 percent shooting. Following the intermission, UA scored the second half's first four points, but UT answered with a 9-2 spurt to push the margin back to 20 points, 48-28. With the Orange and White still ahead by 20 points, 61-41, with 10:32 remaining, the Lady 'Backs rattled off a 14-2 run during a three-minute span to cut the margin to just eight, forcing Tennessee to take a timeout. However, the Lady Vols answered with another 9-2 run to go ahead by 15 points, 72-57, and would let Arkansas get no closer than 11 points the rest of the way. Individually, the Lady Vols were paced by Ely's 30 points, which marked the 75th time in the program's history that a UT player has scored at least 30 points in a single game. As a team, Tennessee shot a season-best 54.5 percent from the field but committed a season-high 28 turnovers. Interestingly, UT committed a season-low nine turnovers in its previous contest, a 74-44 victory against South Carolina. UPCOMING OPPONENT - VANDERBILT Vanderbilt wraps up regular season play this week taking on #7-ranked LSU on Feb. 22 and then traveling to Knoxville to play #2-ranked Tennessee on Feb. 25. In their last outing, Commodore guard Caroline Williams hit six three-pointers and scored a career-high 26 points to lead #12-ranked Vanderbilt to an 83-65 victory over South Carolina on Feb. 18 in Nashville. The Commodores (23-4, 9-3 Southeastern Conference) have won six straight. They have not trailed or been tied since a Feb. 1 game at Kentucky. Williams had a career day for Vanderbilt, scoring 26 points on 8-of-10 shooting (80 percent) after hitting 6-of-8 shots from beyond the arc. Melanie Johnson led the Gamecocks with 14 points and nine rebounds. Vanderbilt, No. 2 nationally in field-goal percentage (50.3) and No. 1 in three-point percentage (43.0), shot well against Carolina, hitting 61 percent of their shots from the field and shooting 53 percent from beyond the arc (8-of-15). The Commodores also hit 19-of-20 free throws in the game. South Carolina was 23-of-66 (35 percent) from the field and outrebounded the Commodores 35-30 with most of the rebounds (24) coming from offensive boards. Vanderbilt, riding a six-game winning streak, got off to a hot start with a 13-2 run to begin the game. The lead swelled to as many as 30 points early in the second half before Carolina rallied with 8-2 and 10-2 runs to cut the deficit to 76-55 with 5:29 remaining. However the Gamecocks emergence began with too little time left on the clock as Vanderbilt claimed the 83-65 victory. SEC CHAMPIONSHIP CLINCHED VS. LSU Tennessee's 56-51 victory over LSU on Feb. 19, clinched the regular season SEC championship for the Lady Vols for the 14th time under head coach Pat Summitt. The win also gives UT 25 wins in a season for the 26th time under Summitt and the 20th season in a row. It marks the eighth time the Lady Vols have recorded at least 12 SEC wins. Tennessee's President's Day victory over the Lady Tigers snaps a two-year regular season losing streak to LSU. In the game, notably, the first five fouls committed by LSU were holds on UT's Candace Parker. Six of the team's seven first-half LSU fouls were on Parker. The first three LSU fouls of the second half were holds on Parker. For the game, 11 of 15 Tiger fouls were on Tennessee's All-American. With five minutes left in the first half, Parker had more points than the entire LSU team (17). Parker had 20 at halftime and the Tigers had 22. While Parker was 11 of 20 from the field for the Lady Vols, the remaining UT starting five was a combined seven of 38. Tennessee's 26 second-half points were the fewest of the season. Tennessee's 31.3 percent shooting was the lowest of the season. Individually, Alexis Hornbuckle...Extended her streak of games with a steal to 63. She now has at least one steal in 84 of 91 career games. Surpassed her personal-best for season steals. In 2005-06 she had 91 thefts, this season she has (93). Candace Parker...Scored in double figures for the 25th time this season and the 58th time in her career. Scored 20+ points for the 13th time this season and the 24th time in her career. Earned a double-double for the 15th time this season and the 25th time in her career. She had 20 points and 10 rebounds by halftime. Parker moved into 24th place on the all-time UT scoring list (1,150 points). She grabbed a season-high 13 rebounds; Shannon Bobbitt...Moved into 17th place in the UT record books for career three-pointers (48). Made two free throws with 11.8 seconds left to give UT a three-point advantage. Dominique Redding...Scored eight key points for the Lady Vols and was named the Lady Vol player of the game. WARLICK SELECTED AS SEC GREAT FOR 2007 Featuring former outstanding student-athletes and administrators from all 12 Southeastern Conference member institutions, the 2007 class of the SEC Greats program will be honored at the SEC Women's Basketball Tournament March 1-4 at The Arena at Gwinnett Center in Duluth, Ga. The 2007 class includes Tennessee Lady Vol Associate Head Basketball coach Holly Warlick, Shelly Pyles Cunningham (Basketball), Alabama; Kimberly Wilson Jenkins (Basketball), Arkansas; Lauretta Freeman-Horn (Basketball), Auburn; Ann Marie Rogers (Assoc. Athletics Director), Florida; Bernadette Locke Mattox (Basketball), Georgia; Lea Wise Prewitt (Basketball), Kentucky; Marie Ferdinand Harris (Basketball), LSU; Alisa Scott (Basketball), Ole Miss; Laura Springer (Basketball), Mississippi State; Lisa Misipeka (Track & Field), South Carolina and Ryan Tolbert Jackson (Track & Field), Vanderbilt. Each Great will be introduced during half-time of their teams first game of the tournament, all 12 individuals will also be introduced as a group between games of the second session on Friday, March 2. This marks the seventh year of the Greats program. The previous Tennessee honorees were: 2001- Bridgette Gordon, 2002-Daedra Charles, 2003-Michelle Marciniak, 2004-Jill Rankin Schneider, 2005-Tamika Catchings and 2006-Kara Lawson. FROM THE TRAINING ROOM Both Alex Fuller and Cait McMahan were full-go at LSU on Feb. 19. Fuller is sporting goggles to protect another poke to her right eye. Tennessee finished the game with Ole Miss on Feb. 15 with just eight players. Rookie point guard Cait McMahan left the game after taking a hard fall on her left elbow and sophomore forward Alex Fuller went to the bench after she took a shot to her previously injured right eye. Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine, Jenny Moshak, announced Fri. Feb. 16 Fuller will practice and play as her right eye allows. Fuller took stitches to the area of the eye on Jan. 25 versus Vanderbilt. X-rays determined that McMahan had not sustained a fracture and a MRI revealed no structural damage to her left elbow. Moshak will treat McMahan's elbow symptomatically on a day-to-day basis. UT'S CIRCUS ACT GOING TO HOG HEAVEN The Tennessee Lady Vols continues to have the "circus coming to town" effect on away attendance. Remarkably, 15 or 16 away games have produced some kind of attendance mark. Tennessee's appearance produced the largest attendance mark of the season (all venues) for Arizona State, Louisiana Tech, Old Dominion, Connecticut; the largest mark at home for North Carolina (tie), Texas, Florida, Vanderbilt, Auburn, and the largest home and away crowds for both Alabama and Georgia. The crowd at the LSU-UT game was the second largest of the season in Baton Rouge...about 800 more people attended the Ohio State game in December. SCORING FIELD DAY FOR SEC FOES In UT's first eight SEC games of the season, no Lady Vol opponent had scored more than 58 points on Tennessee. Actually, Florida managed 58 points against Tennessee in the second conference game of the season on Jan. 11. In the initial eight games SEC foes scored 36 points (Alabama1 and South Carolina), 41 points (Georgia1), 44 points (Mississippi St.), 51 points (Alabama2), 57 points (Vanderbilt1 and Georgia2) and 58 by Florida. In games one-eight, UT averaged 71.1 ppg while giving up just 47.5 ppg in SEC games (+23.6 winning margin). In games 9-10-11, SEC opponents averaged 64.3 ppg. Auburn started the floodgate on Feb. 8 scoring 62 points, Kentucky followed in the next game with 62 points and Ole Miss tallied 69 points to become the SEC leader in the clubhouse against UT. The Lady Vols defense stopped the SEC scoring fest at LSU holding the Lady Tigers to just 51 points. ONLY FOUR IN THE 70'S Only four teams have managed to score 70 points (or more) against Tennessee this season. Arizona State and Duke both scored a season high 74 points against the Lady Vols. Chattanooga scored 72 points and North Carolina tallied 70 against Tennessee. FYI ON PARKER Just to clear things up... Redshirt sophomore All-American Candace Parker is on track to graduate with honors from Tennessee in December 2007 during her junior season. Since Parker sat out her original rookie year, she could choose to play for Tennessee in the 2008-09 season while working on her masters or she has the option of playing in the WNBA since her original class would have graduated. LEX HAS NATION'S BEST STREAK Lady Vol junior guard Alexis Hornbuckle has a streak of 63 consecutive games with at least one steal. A leading candidate for Defensive Player of the Year, Hornbuckle averages 3.3 steals per game. She started the 2006-07 season with a career high seven steals against Chattanooga. Hornbuckle has 92 steals on the season to date and has already surpassed her 2005-06 total of 91 thefts. WENT OVER 200,000 AT HOME Tennessee broke the 200,000 home attendance mark for the 10th time in the game against Ole Miss on Feb.15. A nation leading 210,594 have clicked thru the turnstiles in 15 home games. The Lady Vols home attendance eclipsed 180K against Georgia with 13,475 in the stands. This already marks the Lady Vols' 11th consecutive season going over 150,000 at home. VANDY TIX GOING FAST Tennessee's final home game of the 2006-07 season against Vanderbilt on Feb. 25, may become a sell-out. To date, over 21,000 tickets have been sold for "Senior Day." Gates for the 1:00 p.m. tip-off will open 30 minutes earlier at 11:30 a.m. SURPRISE! UT IS #1 IN SOS/RPI I know it is a huge surprise but the Tennessee Lady Vols hold a large percentile advantage in both the Ratings Percentage Index and the Strength of Schedule through 27 games. Also listed are UT's opponents this season.
PARKER'S A FOUL MAGNET Lady Vol sophomore All-American Candace Parker has been a foul magnet in 2006-07. With all of the double and triple-teaming she has seen this season, almost one-third of the opponent's 492 total fouls have been inflicted on her. In 26 games this season, Parker has drawn 160 fouls. In the game against LSU on Feb. 19, 11 fouls were called on Lady Tigers trying to stop Parker. In the first game versus Vanderbilt, she was fouled a dozen times by the Commodores (out of 22 total team fouls). Previously against Notre Dame, she was fouled 10 times by the Irish, eclipsing nine fouls whistled against players from Arizona State, Stanford and North Carolina. To date, Parker has visited the charity stripe 166 times this season - about six times a game. Against UConn, seven of the Huskies total of 13 fouls came while trying to stop Parker. In 12 SEC games this season, the Tennessee Lady Vols have forced their conference foes into 25.1 turnovers per outing It has resulted in a total of 300 points scored off of turnovers for the Lady Vols against SEC teams - or an average of 25.0 ppg. So for every turnover an SEC team has committed against UT, the Lady Vols have scored a point.
UNDEFEATED SEC SEASONS
All-time, Tennessee has turned in seven undefeated league seasons in SEC play. The 2003-04 team was the last to run the SEC table with a 14-0 record.
GOTTA BRING UP THE BOARDS...
...Or, lack thereof. The Lady Vols have been outrebounded in 11 games this season. When Kentucky pulled off the +16 rebounding advantage (40-24) on Feb. 11, 2007, it was a season worst for UT. Granted, Tennessee shot 53.2 percent for the game but it was a huge disparity as the Wildcats grabbed 16 offensive and 24 defensive caroms. Until that game, the Lady Vols had been on a four-game streak of outrebounding the opposition. Only two other teams produced a double-digit differential on the boards this season against UT-North Carolina and UT-Chattanooga (+10). The Lady Vols shot 36% against UNC and 58% against UTC.
TENNESSEE ALLOWING JUST 52.1 PPG IN SEC GAMES
The Tennessee Lady Vols have fashioned some pretty serious stats in SEC play this season. Defensively, the Lady Vols have been stingy...very stingy. Incredibly, when Auburn and Kentucky scored 62 points and Ole Miss 69 points against Tennessee in the Lady Vols' three most recent games, it marked the most points UT has allowed by an SEC opponent this season. Currently, Tennessee is holding SEC opponents to just 52.1 ppg while scoring 73.3 or a +21.2 differential.
1987 NCAA CHAMPS HONORED ON 20TH ANNIVERSARY
The Tennessee Lady Vols welcomed back the basketball alums Feb. 10-11 with a weekend of activities. A total of 57 former players and more than 150 family members were in attendance for Tennessee game versus Kentucky. On Sun., Feb. 11, the Lady Vols celebrated the 20th anniversary of the first NCAA Championship team - the 1987 squad. All 14 members of the team were in attendance and were honored in pre-game ceremonies of the UT-Kentucky game. They were dubbed "The Corn-Fed Chicks" by Long Beach State All-American Cindy Brown after the Lady Vols handled her team in the NCAA Final Four semis, 74-64. The Chicks, er Lady Vols, went on to defeat Louisiana Tech, 67-44, in the NCAA title game in Austin, Texas. Coach Pat Summitt won her first national title in her eighth trip to the Final Four and in her 13th season of coaching. Remarkably, the 1987 team led Summitt to her 300th coaching victory.
LADY VOLS EARN ACADEMIC KUDOS
The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced on Feb. 8, 2007, that Lady Vols Candace Parker, Sidney Spencer and Nicky Anosike had been named to the CoSIDA District IV All-Academic Teams. Parker and Anosike were named to the first team, while Spencer picked up second team honors. Spencer and Anosike earned the award for the second straight year, while this was Parker's first opportunity. Parker earned a 3.65 GPA during the fall semester and boasts a 3.29 cumulative average. The 2006 Kodak All-American and sport management major leads the SEC in scoring and blocks. On Jan. 28 she became the fastest Lady Vol in program history to amass 1,000 career points. Spencer posted a perfect 4.0 in the fall and owns a 3.75 cumulative GPA. She is pursuing a degree in sport management and makes time to volunteer in the Knoxville community on a weekly basis. She ranks fourth in the NCAA in three-point shooting percentage. Anosike is on pace to graduate in four years with a triple major in sociology and criminal justice, political science, and legal studies. She has a 3.76 cumulative GPA at UT, including a 4.0 mark during the 2006 fall term. She ranks second on this year's squad in rebounding and blocks and is a two-time member of the All-SEC Academic Team. The Academic All-America team will be announced on Feb. 27 and is selected from the All-District first teams in each of the eight districts.
PARKER ECLIPSED 500 BOARDS
Less than two weeks after scoring her 1,000th career point, sophomore All-American Candace Parker eclipsed the 500 rebound plateau versus Auburn. Grabbing 11 boards against the Tigers.
DOUBLED-UP ALABAMA AND GEORGIA IN SEC PLAY
The Lady Vols have picked up two wins over Alabama and Georgia this season. Tennessee has already picked up one win over Vanderbilt and will face the Commodores again on Feb. 25.
WHEATIES HONORS LADY VOLS
Wheaties® unveiled its newest Breakfast of Champions® box on Feb. 1, 2007, at halftime of the Tennessee-South Carolina game. The special-edition, 18-ounce Wheaties package, features the UT women's basketball program and coach Pat Summitt. The Tennessee package features an image of Thompson-Boling Arena, "The Summitt," a prominent school logo and Coach Summitt on the front of the package. The back of the package showcases an image of Summitt as well as the school mascot. "It is a great honor to be the first women's collegiate basketball coach to be featured on the front of a Wheaties box," said Summitt. "This makes a tremendous statement, not only for me, the Lady Vols and the University of Tennessee, but for women's basketball in general."
"The Tennessee women's basketball team has left a distinctive mark in the world of college basketball by showcasing unparalleled performance, a competitive drive, a sense of pride, and dedication over the years," said Dan Stangler, Wheaties brand manager. Launched in 1924, Wheaties is the No. 1 whole-grain wheat flaked breakfast cereal in the country.
PARKER -- FASTEST TO 1,000
In Tennessee's game versus Alabama on Jan. 28, 2007, Lady Vol sophomore All-American Candace Parker scored her 1,000th career point during the 56th game of her career, making her the fastest Lady Vol in history to amass 1,000 points. Former Lady Vol All-Americans Chamique Holdsclaw did it in 57 games and Tamika Catchings in 58 games. Parker is the 30th 1,000-point scorer at Tennessee.
STILL...WORST REBOUNDERS
UT Coach Pat Summitt's teams have always been noted for tough defense and board play. Kudos to the 2006-07 team for tough defensive play thus far - holding the opposition to 56.0 ppg. However, the current squad needs to hang their collective heads in shame for being the worst rebounding team in Lady Vol history. Currently at 37.6 rebounds per game, this team has dipped below the 2005-06 squad who earned the "worst" moniker last season managing just 39.4 rpg in 36 games - breaking a 28-year old record (1977-78 squad who managed just 39.7 rpg in 31 contests).
UT IS 'DUNK U'
Tennessee Lady Vol sophomore Candace Parker leads a group of five women who have dunked in a collegiate women's basketball game. Parker, with six career dunks, ranks ahead of former Lady Vol Michelle Snow (1998-2002) who recorded three dunks during her career at Tennessee.

NO MUSICAL CHAIRS THIS SEASON
Tennessee Lady Vol coach Pat Summitt has utilized just three line-ups this season. She probably would have stayed with just one line-up (Candace Parker, Sidney Spencer, Nicky Anosike, Alexis Hornbuckle and Shannon Bobbitt) if junior college transfer Bobbitt hadn't missed the game at Louisiana Tech on Nov. 28 to take a test and Parker hadn't fallen ill prior to the Mississippi State game on Jan. 18. Rookie Cait McMahan started in place of Bobbitt for the La Tech game while Parker was replaced by Alex Fuller for the Miss. State contest. Using essentially one line-up is a far cry from previous seasons. Last year, Summitt employed seven different combinations with Candace Parker as the only common denominator in 36 games. In 2004-05, Summitt utilized 10 different looks with no player starting all 35 games. UT's line-up saw four different looks in 2003-04 with Shyra Ely and Ashley Robinson starting 35 games. In 2002-03, three starting line-ups were used as Gwen Jackson, Kara Lawson and Loree Moore were constants in the 38 game schedule.
LADY VOL STREAKS
The last time the Lady Vols lost at home was against Duke, 74-70, on Jan. 22, 2007, -- since then, UT has won four home games. The last time UT lost on the road was on Dec. 3, 2006 at UNC, since then, UT is 9-0 on the road. The last time the Lady Vols lost on a neutral court was against North Carolina, 75-63, in the NCAA Elite 8 game on Mar. 28, 2006. Since that time, UT has not played on a neutral court.
OVER 500 GAMES VS. RANKED
Tennessee's game versus #13 Georgia on Feb. 16, 2006 was the Lady Vols' 500th all-time versus a ranked team since the inception of the polls in 1976. UT is an amazing 379-147 (.700) versus ranked teams. This season, UT is 10-2 in ranked meetings. Last year, Tennessee was 13-3 versus ranked teams.
DOING BETTER IN THE SEC SLATE THIS SEASON
The Tennessee Lady Vols hope to turn in a better showing in the Southeastern Conference regular season slate in 2006-07. Currently, the Lady Vols lead the league with a 12-0 record. Last season, UT lost an uncharacteristic three games in the SEC - at Kentucky (66-63), at home to LSU (72-69) and Florida (95-93 OT). Eight points separated UT from a perfect 14-0 mark to a nine-season low 11-3 SEC record. In fact, from the 1997-98 season until the 2004-05 campaign, Tennessee lost a total of four SEC games in the regular season.

UT LEADS IN HOME ATTENDANCE
Tennessee, once again, leads the NCAA women's basketball attendance race. UT passed the 200,000 attendance mark against Ole Miss on Feb. 15. UT eclipsed 100,000 mark in home attendance before the new year with 19,092 versus Notre Dame. The current attendance standings: 1. Tennessee 14,040 (210,59415), 2. UConn11,152 (156,126/14), 3. SUMMITT GETS 938TH WIN
While Texas Tech's Bobby Knight finally reached 880 wins on the men's side, Lady Vol coach Pat Summitt recorded her 938th victory with a 56-51 win over LSU on Feb. 19 2007. Summitt recorded her 880th win, passing North Carolina's Dean Smith on Mar. 22, 2005 with a 75-54 victory over Purdue in the NCAA Tournament. Summitt has registered 58 wins since then. Summitt is a season and a half of wins ahead of Coach Knight.

1. | Pat Summitt, TENNESSEE | 519 |
(missed just 14 polls in entire AP history) | ||
2. | Andy Landers, Georgia | 11 |
3. | Jody Conradt, Texas | 396 |

THOMPSON-BOLING ARENA WELCOME TO "THE SUMMITT"
The playing court in the Thompson-Boling Arena on the University of Tennessee campus donned a new look for the 2005-06 season. After Lady Vol coach Pat Summitt passed Dean Smith for most NCAA collegiate basketball wins of all-time with a 75-54 win over Purdue on Mar. 22, 2005, UT named the TBA court, "The Summitt." The floor had a complete overhaul with permanent logos of both the Lady Vols and Vols painted directly in front of the scorer's table; the free throw lanes were painted orange with "SEC" reversed out; the giant jump circle/mid-court TENNESSEE was given a new brighter color scheme, and "The Summitt," Coach Summitt's actual signature adorns the sidelines opposite the team benches.
ON OUR WAY TO 300 WINS
Tennessee recorded its 200th win in Thompson-Boling Arena when the Lady Vols defeated the University of Southern California on Nov. 18, 2001, 106-66. UT has now amassed a 279-17 (.943) record since the Orange and White moved into the Thompson-Boling Arena to start the 1987-88 season 19-years ago. Along the way, the Lady Vols have produced nine flawless home records in 1988-89 (15-0), 1991-92 (14-0), 1992-93 (13-0), 1993-94 (15-0), 1994-95 (15-0), 1997-98 (16-0), 1998-99 (14-0), 2000-01 (15-0) and 2002-03 (16-0). UT also registered an NCAA record 69-game home court-winning streak from Feb. 1, 1991 thru Jan. 2, 1996.
JUST 17 LOSSES
The Tennessee Lady Vols rarely lose at home. In fact, since moving to the Thompson-Boling Arena for the 1987-88 campaign, UT has lost two games in one season just six times. UT lost two games in TBA during the inaugural 1987-88 campaign, 1996-97, 1999-00, 2001-02, 2003-04 and the 2005-06 seasons. The 17 all-time losses at Thompson-Boling Arena have come at the hands of just nine teams: Florida (2006), LSU (2006), Duke (2004 and 2007), Connecticut (2004, 2002, 2000, 1996), Louisiana Tech (1999, 1989), Georgia (1996, 1991), Texas (2003, 2002, 1987), Stanford (1996) and Auburn (1988).
HOME SWEET HOME -- 400th HOME WINS
The victory over Georgia on Jan. 31, 2005, was the Lady Vols 400th home win since Pat Summitt took over as head coach in 1974. Summitt has won 91.4 percent of all home games in 33 years producing a 430-41 overall record. Home losses (in the Summitt era) include: six in Alumni Gym from 1974-76; 18 in Stokely Athletics Center from 1976-87; and 17 in Thompson-Boling Arena since 1987.
LAST LOSS TO AN UNRANKED TEAM?
Florida became the second unranked team in the 2005-06 season to knock off the Lady Vols, when they won 95-93 OT on Feb. 26, 2006. Exactly one month earlier, unranked Kentucky turned the trick with a 66-63 win over #1/3-ranked Tennessee on Jan. 26, 2006 at Rupp Arena. Previously, it had been four years since an unranked team upset the Lady Vols. So before Florida and Kentucky had their way with UT, when was the last time Tennessee lost to an unranked team? That would have been to LSU on Mar. 2, 2002 at the SEC Tournament in Nashville, Tenn. LSU had been in and out of the Top 25 polls in late January and February. Prior to that, UT's last loss to an unranked team was five years previous (to the day) losing to Auburn on Mar. 2, 1997 at the SEC Tournament.
100 POINT GAMES
Since 1974, the Lady Vols have gone over the century mark 72 times. Last season, UT eclipsed 100 points in two games - Princeton, 107 and #16/18 Texas, 102. The 1987-88 team hit triple digits in seven games to lead the NCAA.
IN OVERTIME
The Lady Vols are 24-13 all-time in overtime games. The most OT games in a year was tied in 2003-04 with four as the Lady Vols went 3-1 in overtime losing to Georgia, 68-66, and defeating Auburn, 68-61, DePaul, 96-89, and Stanford, 70-66. It tied the mark set in 1996-97, when the Lady Vols were 3-1 in overtime contests losing to Georgia, 94-93, and defeating Texas, 68-65, Vanderbilt, 92-79 and LSU, 100-99. UT's 22 points in the OT against Florida (2-3-05), was the most ever scored by the Lady Vols in a single overtime. UT's most recent OT affair was a 95-93 loss to Florida on 2-26-06.
