John Hayt Collegiate Invitational

VOLS FINISH NINTH AT JOHN HAYT COLLEGIATE INVITATIONAL

The Tennessee men's golf team shot a final round 6-over-par 294 and finished ninth as the John Hayt Collegiate Invitational concluded Tuesday at Sawgrass Country Club in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. The Vols finished with a tournament scorecard of 313-302-294--909.
Juniors Charlie Ford and Philip Pettitt were the top finishers for the Volunteers. Ford had the best final round for the Vols, shooting a 5-under-par 67 in the final round to finish in a tie for 11th place. He scattered an eagle among six birdies on the day. Pettitt carded a 3-over-par 75 to finish with a tournament scorecard of 78-70-75--223.
Sophomore Chris Paisley fired his best round of the tournament in the final round, a 3-over-par 75 to finish tied for 23rd place.
Tino Weiss finished the tournament in a tie for 66th after firing a 5-over-par 77.
James Brannen rounded out the lineup for the Vols. Brannen repeated his second-round score of 7-over-par 79 to finish tied for 72nd.
UCLA's Kevin Chappell fired a 2-under-par 69 to take the individual crown with a three-round score of 214. In second, with a score of 215, was Vanderbilt's Jon Curran. Costal Carolina's Dustin Johnson (216), Alabama's Gator Todd (217) and Central Florida's Greg Forest (218) rounded out the top five.
Alabama went wire-to-wire to take home the team championship. The Crimson Tide finished the tournament 17-over-par and had a final scorecard of 303-291-287--881. This victory marks their fourth of the 2006-07 season. Vanderbilt and Coastal Carolina finished tied for second with a three-round score of 891.
The Vols will travel next to Westlake Village, Calif., for the Ashworth Collegiate Invitational at North Ranch Country Club.
