The Tennessee men's golf team fired a 25-over-par 313 to find itself in 14th place after one round at the John Hayt Collegiate Invitational played Sunday at Sawgrass Country Club in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.
Weather was a factor as players battled tough winds and temperatures that hung in the 40s most of the day.
Junior Charlie Ford and sophomore Chris Paisley led the Vols shooting 5-over-par 77 in the first round to finish tied for 23rd. Ford recorded four birdies on his last nine holes.
Junior Philip Pettitt fired a 6-over-par 78 and sits tied for 36th.
Freshman James Brannen was next for Tennessee. Brannen shot a 9-over-par 81 and is tied for 58th.
Tino Weiss rounded out the Volunteer lineup. Weiss shot a 10-over-par 82 to stand in a tie for 68th.
Alabama holds a one-stroke lead over the field, shooting a 15-over-par 303. Vanderbilt is in second with Georgia State in third. UNC-Charlotte and Augusta State are tied for fourth.
UCLA's Kevin Chappell and Pepperdine's Shane Mason both fired an even-par 72 and hold a one-stroke lead over second.
