Vols Hold Four Stroke Lead At Turtle Bay

KAHUKU, O`ahu - Paced by freshman Robin Wingardh???s 63, the Tennessee men???s golf team fired a 24-under-par 264 to take the lead after the first round of the 2007 Turtle Bay Intercollegiate.
Played Monday at Turtle Bay Resort in Kahuku, Hawaii, the first round was played on the Fazio course.??
The Vols total score of 264 is their lowest round this season, bettering their previous low by 14 strokes.
The second round is scheduled to begin Tuesday at 7:20 a.m. Hawaii Time on the Palmer course.
Heading into the second round, the Volunteers have a four-stroke lead over the College of Charleston. Pepperdine, UC Irvine and UT-Arlington are all tied for third at 18-under-par.
Wingarh was 9-under-par and holds a one-shot lead over Bobby Massa of UT Arlington and Troy Merritt of Boise State. Five golfers tied for fourth at -7.
Chris Paisley also finished the day in the top-10, shooting a 6-under-par 66 to finish the day tied for ninth.
Next for Tennessee was senior Philip Pettitt who shot a 5-under-par 67 and is tied for 16th.
Freshman David Holmes carded a 4-under-par 68 and is tied for 24th while senior Charlie Ford was tied for 48th after a 2-under-par 70.
Competing as an individual, Georgia native Ben Spickard shot a 1-under-par 71, finishing the day tied for 60th.
