The No. 12 seed Tennessee men???s golf team will face off against SEC rival No. 6 seed Georgia for fifth place at the Callaway Golf Collegiate Match Play Championship after defeating Coastal Carolina 4-0-1 in the third round played Monday at Reynolds Plantation Country Club in Greensboro, Ga.
Georgia and Tennessee will compete in the winners consolation B final set to tee off Tuesday morning at 8:30 Eastern time.
Monday began with the completion of the second round suspended Sunday night because of darkness. No. 4 seed UCLA took control early and did not let up as they swept all five matches from Tennessee to move on in the winner???s bracket.
With the loss, the Volunteers went on to face No. 16 seed Coastal Carolina in the third-round match. Philip Pettitt and Chris Paisley both defeated their opponents??? 1-up after 18 holes. Charlie Ford defeated Coastal Carolina???s Dan Obremski 2 and 1 to give Tennessee the decisive match.
Sophomore David Holmes halved his match with Coastal Carolina???s Josh Jackson and freshman Robin Wingardh defeated his opponent Tripp McAllister in 21 holes, giving the Vols a 4-0-1 victory over the Chanticleers.
UCLA and Georgia Tech both advanced to the championship match while Florida and South Carolina will compete in the winners consolation A final. Charlotte and Florida State play for the consolation final.
