COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. ??? Lady Vol Christine Magnuson was named to the USA National Team this week as announced by USA Swimming, the National Governing Body for the sport of swimming. The senior qualified for the team after a productive summer of competing at national-level meets such as the ConocoPhillips USA Swimming National Championships in Indianapolis, Ind., and the Japan International Grand Prix in Chiba Japan.
At the national championships on Aug. 2, Magnuson posted the then-13th fastest time in the world in the 100m butterfly by touching the wall in 58.76. The mark stood as one of the top six in the country, earning her a spot on the national team. Less than two weeks later, the Tinley Park, Ill., native improved on the time by two-tenths of a second at the International Grand Prix.
The swimmers with the top six times swum in the finals from the World Championships, Pan American games, World University Games and Nationals earned spot on the roster. She will join Natalie Coughlin (Cal Aquatics), Rachel Komisarz (Lakeside Swim Team), Dana Vollmer (Cal Aquatics), Samantha Woodward (Chesapeake Swim Club) and Kim Vandenberg (Team Bruin) in the 100m fly.
