Orange Team Wins Annual Orange and White Meet

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. ??? In a close annual Orange and White exhibition meet, it was the Orange team that was victorious by a score of 143.5 to 138.5 at the Student Aquatic Center this afternoon.

???We swam well and it was fun to see our freshmen race,??? head coach Matt Kredich said. ???They pushed the upperclassmen and we got a lot of work to do until the time we compete against the other teams.???

The White team, made up of returning All-Americans Michele King and Carly Mathes along with Brooke Boncher, Bryttany Curran, Laura Fehrman, Ashley Knapik, Vicky Linnell, Staley McCartney, Ashley Quinn, Laura Tomes and Danyelle Vincent. Making their first appearances in Lady Vol attire were Alex Barsanti, Morgan Farrell and Tricia Weaner. The squad won eight events including both the 200y freestyle and medley relays. Mathes came out on top in the 200y free and individual medley. King won the 100y breast and 50y free. Freshmen Farrell and Weaner also won events, the 100y and 200y back, respectively.

The Orange team consisted of returning All-Americans Christine Magnuson, Brittany Nauta and Lauren LeRoy. Maria Jugan, Katie Gehring, Betsy Lange, Jamie Saffer, Sarah McCall and newcomers Martina Moravcikova, Jill Pierce, Aleska Akerfelds and Sarah Sargent joined them. Magnuson took two events for her team in the 100y and 200y fly. Akerfelds, a talented distance swimmer, won the 500y and 1000y free. LeRoy, who competed at the Kaiser Permanente National Diving Championships over the summer won both the one- and three-meter events. Nauta and Moravcikova were also victorious in the 100y free and 200y breast, respectively.

The Lady Vols will head to Louisville next week for an 11 a.m. meet on Oct. 20. They will return home on Oct. 26 to face SEC foes Kentucky and South Carolina.
