VOLS FINISH SEVENTH AT CARPET CAPITAL COLLEGIATE

The Tennessee men's golf team shot a final round even-par 288 and finished seventh as the Carpet Capital Collegiate concluded Sunday at The Farm Golf Club in Dalton, Ga. The Vols finished with a tournament scorecard of 290-281-288--859.
Switzerland native Tino Weiss was the top finisher for Tennessee, shooting an even-par final round to finish in a tie for 18th place. He finished the tournament at 3-under-par and with a final scorecard of 71-70-72--213.
Philip Pettitt had the best final round for the Volunteers. Pettitt had two birdies and fired a 2-under-par 70 to end the tournament in a tie for 23rd.
Fellow junior Ben Spickard was next for UT. Spickard carded a final round 2-over-par 72 ending the tournament with a scorecard of 71-72-74--217 to finish in 33rd place.
Charlie Ford finished the tournament in a tie for 44th after firing a final round 3-over-par 76.
Chris Paisley rounded out the Tennessee lineup. Paisley shot his best round of the tournament, an even-par 72, and finished tied for 53rd.
Alabama took home the team championships by six strokes over second place Clemson. Alabama finished with a scorecard of 276-285-280--841. Georgia and Georgia Tech tied for third place with Florida and Georgia State finishing tied for fifth.
Chris Kirk of Georgia fired a final round 5-under-par 67 to jump three spots and capture the individual championship by one stroke. Kirk finished the tournament at 11-under-par. Darren Blair of North Carolina State finished at 10-under-par and in second place. Brendan Gielow of Wake Forest and Ben Martin of Clemson tied for third. Brian Harman of Georgia finished fifth.
Next up for the Volunteers is the Shoal Creek Invitational, Sept. 25-26 at Shoal Creek Country Club in Birmingham, Ala.
