VOLS PLACE THIRD IN RELAY RANKINGS

Tennessee finished third in the 2006 relay rankings released in the September issue of Track & Field News. The Vols scored 20 points in the 50th annual relay rankings by the magazine.
TCU claimed the top spot in this year's rankings with 30 points. LSU finished second with 29 and Arkansas was fourth with 19 to give the SEC three schools in the top five. Texas and UTEP each scored 18 points to tie for fifth, while Michigan and USC tied for seventh with 16 points. Baylor finished ninth with 15 and Texas Tech earned 13 points to finish 10th.
The scores are compiled by taking a school's top 2006 time in eight different relays. Each event is scored 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1, except for the shuttle hurdle relay which is scored 5-4-3-2-1. The 4x100, 4x200, 4x400, 4x800, 4xmile, sprint medley, distance medley and shuttle hurdle relays make up the scoring.
Tennessee won the shuttle hurdle relay crown for the second year in a row and was the only school to defend a relay title from last year. The Vols also placed second in the 4x100, sixth in the sprint medley and 10th in the 4xmile.
TCU's win ended a seven-year win streak by the SEC, including Tennessee's victory in 2002.
