SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic -- Cleo Tyson, who will be a junior next season at the University of Tennessee, helped the United States 4x100-meter relay unit claim gold Sunday at the North American, Central American and Caribbean (NACAC) Under 23 Track & Field Championships at Félix Sánchez Stadium.
Tyson, from Huntsville, Texas, ran the second leg on the U.S. 4x1 quartet that zipped around the oval in a meet-best 43.53 seconds. The gold was Tyson's second of the weekend, as Saturday she claimed victory in the 100m dash in a meet-record 11.25.
Aiding the American cause were Brooklynn Morris on the opener, Shareese Woods on the third leg and Shalonda Solomon on the anchor hitch. The U.S. easily defeated runner-up Puerto Rico, which was second in 46.60.
Rising UT senior Leslie Treherne, meanwhile, came away with a fourth-place result in the final of the 800-meter run. The native of Chesapeake, Va., charted a time of 2:05.74 en route to that outcome on the meet's final day.
