Tennessee announced Monday that Vols swimmer Tyler Gustafson has been awarded an NCAA postgraduate scholarship.
Gustafson is one of 29 males in the country who received the $7,500 scholarship. Gustafson graduated with his bachelor's degree in Logistics and Transportation this past May and was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV at-large team. He plans to pursue his MBA at UT this fall.
"Tyler has always been a hard worker both in swimming and in the classroom," said John Trembley, head men's swimming coach. "Tyler has demonstrated excellent leadership in his role as team captain and has always been involved in community service work.
"By being here, Tyler has enriched many people and it is wonderful to see this award given to one so deserving."
To qualify for an NCAA postgraduate scholarship, a student-athlete must have an overall grade-point average of 3.2 or above (on a 4.0 scale), perform with distinction in their sport, and have displayed good character both on and off the field. The winners also must intend to continue their education beyond their bachelor's degree.
Gustafson is the 23rd student-athlete from UT to receive the prestigious award. Past award recipients include Peyton Manning, Tim Irwin, Tanya Haave and Tim Priest.
