KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The University of Tennessee women's track & field team has qualified 10 athletes for next week's NCAA Outdoor Championships in Sacramento, Calif., Lady Vol Head Coach J.J. Clark announced Tuesday.
Earning automatic qualification by virtue of their top-five individual performances at the NCAA Mideast Regional in Knoxville on May 26 and 27 were senior Patricia Hall (St. Ann, Jamaica) in the 400 meters, senior Jessica Reust (Knoxville, Tenn.) in the pole vault, junior Leslie Treherne (Chesapeake, Va.) in the 800 meters, sophomore Shanna Dickenson (Cincinnati, Ohio) in the discus throw, sophomore Cleo Tyson (Huntsville, Texas) in the 100 and 200 meters, redshirt freshman Celriece Law (Denver, Colo.) in the 100-meter hurdles and freshman Sarah Bowman (Warrenton, Va.) in the 1500 meters.
Also gaining direct entry into the meet, which will be held June 7-10 at Sacramento State's Hornet Stadium, were sophomores Courtney Champion (Lawrenceville, Ga.) and LaTonya Loche (Bastrop, La.), who will run on both the 4x100m and 4x400m relays. Champion and Loche will have help on the 4x1 from Tyson and Hall, while they are expected to join Hall and Treherne on the 4x4.
Champion and senior Brooke Novak (Kaukauna, Wis.) also received at-large invitations for individual events, the NCAA announced Tuesday. Champion made the cut in the 100m dash, while Novak earned a bid in the 1500 meters.
First time NCAA Outdoor qualifiers included Bowman, Dickenson and Law, while the other seven are making their second trip to the national meet. Champion, Hall, Loche and Tyson went in 2005, while Novak, Reust and Treherne made their previous NCAA appearances in 2004.
The UT women will depart on Monday (June 5) for Sacramento.
