MAGNUSON SELECTED TO ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT SECOND TEAM

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - University of Tennessee standout swimmer Christine Magnuson has been named to the Espn The Magazine Academic All-District IV First Team for at-large sports, it was announced Thursday.
Magnuson, who maintains a 3.80 GPA in exercise sciences, earned seven All-America certificates at the 2006 NCAA Championships to help the Lady Vols claim 12th place. At the national meet, the Tinley Park, Ill., native became the first woman in program history to earn All-America status in the 100 and 200y free in the same season, finishing in 12th place for the 200 and 14th in the 100. She established school standards in both events.
Magnuson, who was named to the College Swimming Coaches Association of America Scholar-Athlete Team in 2004-05, also swam with five record-setting relays on the campaign, all of which scored points at NCAAs.
At the Southeastern Conference Championships, the UT Academic Honor Roll member was one of only nine performers to qualify for championship finals in three events. Magnuson's efforts netted her a team-high 59 points and lifted Team Orange to a solid fifth-place showing at the highly-competitive meet.
