UT'S TREHERNE IMPROVES NCAA CHANCES AT ALEX WILSON INVITATIONAL

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - University of Tennessee junior Leslie Treherne gave herself a shot at a berth in the NCAA Indoor Championships, recording a second-place finish and a provisional qualifying mark on Saturday at the Alex Wilson Invitational at Notre Dame's Loftus Sports Center.
Treherne, from Chesapeake, Va., charted a season-best clocking of two minutes, 6.94 seconds in the 800-meter run to earn runner-up honors in that event. More importantly, she was well below the NCAA provisional qualifying plateau of 2:09.00. Her mark ties her for 17th nationally and puts her within the realm of possibilities for an at-large bid, which will be announced late Monday night.
The Lady Vol finished second behind LSU's Tanya Osbourne, who covered the distance in 2:06.02. Treherne's clocking was her best indoor readout since running 2:06.86 at the 2004 SEC Championships.
Freshman Sarah Bowman, meanwhile, was in action in the mile run. The product of Warrenton, Va., was unable to lower her season best, however, crossing the line seventh in 4:48.32. She had previously run a season-best and NCAA provisional effort of 4:46.17 in the prelims of the 2006 SEC Championships.
The NCAA Indoor Championship meet will be held March 10-11 at the Randal Tyson Track Center on the campus of the University of Arkansas - Fayetteville.
