RELAYS LEAD VOLS ON DAY TWO OF NATIONALS

The 12th-ranked Tennessee men's swimming and diving maintained 14th position with 56 points Friday after day two of the 2006 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships in Atlanta, Ga., at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center.
"This was not a great day for us," UT head coach John Trembley said. "We did not meet expectations and need a strong final day on Saturday."
Arizona leads going into the final day with 336.5 points. Auburn fell to second after day one with 331.5. Stanford is third with 244.5, followed by Texas in fourth with 220 and Florida in fifth with 203.
The 200 medley relay squad of Brad Boswell, Barry Murphy, Andrew Engle and Tyler Gustafson finished 10th in 1:27.36. The quartet was 11th after the preliminary morning session in 1:27.33.
Boswell also led the 800 free relay, his second leadoff of the day, followed by freshman Nolan Morrell, senior Bryan Goldberg and senior Casey Dauw. The 800 free relay finished 11th in 6:28.43.
"The 800 free relay time was disappointing," Trembley added.
Sophomore Octavio Alesi was the first Vol to score in an individual event at the NCAAs. He scored in the 100 butterfly for the Vols, finishing 13th in 47.43. He was 10th after prelims in 47.11.
Freshman Nolan Morrell finished 21st in the 200 freestyle in 1:36.75. Seniors Bryan Goldberg and Casey Dauw followed in 23rd and 25th, respectively.
Junior Brad Boswell followed a good first day with a 13th-place finish in the 100 backstroke in 47.96. Sophomore Michael Wolfe saw his first action of the meet while finishing 19th in the 100 back in 48.47.
Competition concludes Saturday with preliminaries beginning at Noon followed by finals at 7 p.m.
