VOLS TO COMPETE IN SCHENKEL E-Z-GO INVITATIONAL

After two weeks idle from competition, the eighth-ranked Tennessee men's golf team travels to Statesboro, Ga., for the Schenkel E-Z-Go Invitational Saturday and Sunday. In 2005, the Big Orange finished third in this event with a scorecard of 290-288-304--882.
Hosted by Georgia Southern, the invitational will be played at Forest Heights Country Club, a par-72, 6,962-yard course.
Joining Tennessee in the field for this 27th annual invitational are SEC foes Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Kentucky, LSU and South Carolina. Also competing are Augusta State, Georgia Southern, Michigan State, Minnesota, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Ohio State and Toledo.
Tennessee's lineup is expected to feature Charlie Ford, Philip Pettitt, Ben Spickard, Lloyd Campbell and Jonathan Mount.
The Schenkel E-Z-Go marks Tennessee's return to action since finishing seventh at the Ashworth Invitational Feb. 27-28. The Volunteers shot a team scorecard of 296-297-287--880.
Kingston native Mount was the Vols' top finisher. The sophomore shot a final round 6-over-par to finish the tournament in 18th place. He has three top-10 finishes on the season.
Behind Mount was sophomore Spickard, who is coming off his best round of the year. He fired a 4-under-par 67 in the final round to finish in a tie for 27th.
Campbell was next for the Big Orange. The senior shot a 4-over-par in the final round and has five rounds of par or better this season.
Ford rounded out the Volunteers' lineup at Ashworth. He shot a scorecard of 74-81-75--227 to finish in a tie for 48th.
In his first tournament of 2006, Pettitt recorded a final round score of 4-over-par and finished the tournament in a tie for 41st. The sophomore has six rounds of par or better on the season.
Teams play 36 holes Saturday, with an 8 a.m. EST shotgun start. Action wraps up Sunday morning with a round of 18. Live results will be available at www.golfstat.com.
