LEXINGTON, Ky. - Lauren LeRoy advanced to the finals for the second straight day, but fell shy of qualifying for the NCAA Championships after claiming 18th place in the three-meter diving competition at the Zone "B" diving championships on Saturday.
"I was pleased with Lauren's performance today," said diving coach Dave Parrington. "All she is lacking at this level is experience, and competing in this event will benefit her greatly next year. We will take this and learn from it."
LeRoy, from Oshkosh, Wis., stood in 16th place following the prelims with a sum of 257.15. She battled hard in the finals, concluding the competition with a combined total of 506.90.
Two other Lady Vols also took aim at qualifying for the national meet. Junior Brittany Fulmer (Maryville, Tenn.), claimed 35th place with a score of 211, while sophomore Vicky Linnell (Prospect, South Australia) finished in 39th place with a total of 188.
The Lady Vol divers have one final chance to punch their tickets to the NCAA meet from March 16-18 in Athens, Ga., as the platform competition at the zones is slated for Sunday. Results may be found at www.ukathletics.com.
