LEXINGTON, Ky. - The first day of the Zone "B" diving championships concluded on Friday, with sophomore Lauren LeRoy recording a team-best 12th-place finish in the one-meter diving competition.
"I feel optimistic about Lauren's performance," diving coach Dave Parrington said. "She did well and it gives us some hope for qualifying the rest of the meet. Vicky (Linnell) was battling through some sickness, while Brittany (Fulmer) looked good considering it was her first zone meet."
LeRoy, from Oshkosh, Wis., sat in 15th place following the preliminary session. She had compiled a total of 244.65 points, impressive considering she missed on her second dive. In the finals, LeRoy made up some ground, finishing with a combined sum of 506.70 points.
Sophomore Vicky Linnell (Prospect, South Australia) fell short of advancing to the evening's finals, but still turned in a solid effort by totaling 212.35 points to claim 25th. Junior Brittany Fulmer (Maryville, Tenn.) brought home 32nd place with a sum of 198.10 points.
The championships continue on Saturday, with the three-meter competition on tap.
