ATHENS, Ga. - On the final day of the Bulldog Invitational at the Gabrielsen Natatorium, site of the 2006 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships, senior Abbi Terveer used a lifetime-best 50.96 in the 100y freestyle to provisionally qualify for the NCAA Championships. Also performing at previously unseen heights was junior diver Brittany Fulmer (Maryville, Tenn.), who punched a ticket to the NCAA Zone "B" diving championships with a career-best 290.25 at the one-meter board.
Terveer, from Lima, Ohio, will have the opportunity to compete at the NCAA Championships in the event if Tennessee's school-record setting 200y freestyle relay is picked to swim at the national meet.
Fulmer, a junior, had come painstakingly close to achieving the Zone standard several times this year. In her final chance to do so this year, she rose to the occasion by bettering her previous career best by more than 25 points.
Next on the schedule for the Lady Vols is the NCAA Zone "B" diving championships from March 10-12. Sophomores Lauren LeRoy (Oshkosh, Wis.), Vicky Linnell (Prospect, South Australia) and Fulmer will attempt to advance to the NCAA Championships from March 16-18.
