LADY VOL THROWERS LAND IN NEBRASKA FOR HUSKER INVITATIONAL

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- While the rest of the fifth-ranked University of Tennessee women's track & field team is idle this weekend, two members of the throws corps will be in Lincoln, Neb., on Friday and Saturday for the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.
Senior Ariel Brooks, the school record-holder in the weight throw, will take part in that event at 7 p.m. ET on Friday. The Miami, Fla., product stretched the tape to 67 feet, 3/4 inch, at the Virginia Tech Invitational on Jan. 13 and ranks 10th among women in the NCAA ranks and is third in the Southeastern Conference.
Brooks and senior April Thomas (Albany, Ga.) are also entered in the shot put at 1 p.m. ET on Saturday. Thomas owns a throw of 49 feet, 1 3/4 inches, from the Virgina Tech meet and stands fourth in the SEC this week. Brooks, meanwhile, has a season-best of 43-10 at the Gator Invitational on Jan. 21 and ranks 10th in the conference.
The full squad will reconvene on Feb. 10-11 at the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark.
