The Tennessee men's swimming and diving team opens the season Friday against Louisville at the UT Student Aquatic Center with diving beginning at 4 p.m., and swimming starting at 5 p.m.
"It is an exciting time at the University of Tennessee in that we bring a new opponent in Louisville into the UT Student Aquatic Center," UT head coach John Trembley said. "Louisville is a great program and has just entered into its first season in its multi-million dollar aquatic complex.
Tennessee has seven of last year's 11 All-Americas returning for the 2006 campaign, as well as 15 of 23 lettermen.
Louisville is 1-0 with a 172-119 win over Eastern Illinois Friday, Oct.13. The Cardinals won every race in that meet.
The Cardinals bring in two divers to compete against the trio of Vol divers. This will be the first look at freshmen Michael Muscari and Chris Davis for diving coach Dave Parrington.
"The big thing is that this is our first dual meet of the year, and it is important that it is at home," Parrington said. "This will give Mike Muscari his first opportunity at collegiate competition, and he has not competed in more than a year and a half.
"Chris Davis is extremely inexperienced and it will be important for him to get his feet wet and see what he can do as well. Ryan Rincon will get the chance to continue to build on the things we have worked on the past two years and continue to get better in this meet."
